I did the trip to Sydney from Wagga picking up Paul from Canberra on the way. The purpose was to pickup and install a lift kit and snorkel that i had ordered from Hard Range. Paul had to pickup his rangie and do a few things at the Ebe's. Andy and Paul were keen to test the installation on an earlier model P38 and given that i just bought a 1995 Davis 5.0L it seemed like the perfect opportunity. Pictures of the setup will follow but at this stage i am busy tidying up my previous P38 for sale and tidying the new (older P38) that i just bought.

All i can say is the guys went well beyond the call of duty with the car back on the road after midnight! Lunch, dinner and humour provided by Erich and Sheila and even an offer for sleepover which i would have gladly taken if i didn't have commitments in Wagga. It is people like this that keep the Land Rover community so strong.

As many of you know Hard Range does some great stuff so support them where you can!

Thanks again guys really appreciate the effort.
Cheers,
Remy

That is a real good news story Remy.

I don't know all the guys you mentioned in your story but I have had some dealings with Andy. I can certainly say that he is a great guy and very generous with his time and RR knowledge. :D

Remy.... I would have hit the "Thanks" button if it was working:angel:

It was a pleasure having you and Paul around... you are welcome anytime.

Glad you got home OK...Sheila was really concerned you needed a bit of a sleep here..... but as long as you got home OK, that's good.:D

The things i do for a carton of beer....

Think I only managed 2.5-3 of those beers, thanks Remy.

Sheila and Erich spoilt us with their hospitality as usual :D

I got within 50Kms of home and decided to have a kip at a rest stop along Lake George early on Sunday morning. Awoke with the daylight and indicated temp of zero outside. Got home, had a much needed shower and slept until after lunch.

The Blue Hard Rangie is still in the garage waiting for me to solve the riddle of the non-opening passenger door, and empty all the goodies (including a Warn winch ) so SWMBO's black Rangie (Rosie the Rangie) can take it's rightful place... the blue one is apparently now an "outside Rangie" and the pretty black one is an "inside Rangie"

Cheers, Paul.

So i have been busy pulling bits of my old (but newer P38 - still for sale on ebay after being stuffed around by two buyers) and refitting them to the 95 model, plus a respray of bonnet side panels, snorkel, bullbar, kaymar rear bar and now trying to fit the snorkel, winch, spotties, rear camera, new stereo combo, haltech and 32 inch tyres and rear locker etc. Also priority 1 was to clean the old one up and get everything working for the new buyer. Remind me not to do this again in a hurry and that if i do i should take a few weeks off work and dedicate it to the car rather than trying to fit life around it!

Also built a little attenuator for the stereo which works great and wired the stereo into the wheel controls and all works (nice!) - now to see if the chinese stereo works longer than a week ;)

I will take a couple of better pics when the job is complete but here are a few as promised.

Paul have you measured those heights for me? Can you PM when you do!

Cheers,
Remy

Looking good Remy.

I have not, and I will.

Did I say that my P38 has been living outside? ;) A bit hard to measure heights when it sits on the sloping driveway, while SWMBO's pretty P38 rests on red carpet (yeah, really) in the garage. Hers is going to be out of the garage most of the weekend so I will get some of the mud off mine and put it on the flat surface to measure those heights for you.

Cheers, Paul.

It is a Disco 2 bar and bracket with the p38 mount trimmed and welded onto the back.

that looks awesome Remy... makes my weekend's efforts of rewiring/repositioning the air locker and light bar switches pretty ordinary ;)

Here are my lifted heights you wanted, all measured at front right wheel. Allow 10-15mm higher at rear.
Heights are measured from top of the wheel cap to underside of the guard.
Access ----- 410 (820mm to ground)
Low/Hwy --- 480
Normal ----- 515
High ------- 565

Cheers, Paul.

Remy

Got any details on the front bar mods? How hard was it to do? Do the air bags still work?

Andy did it for me in a couple of hours back before they were involved in HRA. It wasn't hard to do as the chassis rails are the same distance apart. We essentially took off the airbag crush cans off both the bar and the car brackets and welded the two brackets together after a bit of lining up and measuring. One could argue that the bar might set off the airbags in the event of a low speed crash but i highly doubt it and after much research into the topic i see no issue with the bar going off when it is supposed to in the event of a crash. If you are at all concerned i would buy a HRA bar now double hoop and winch/SRS compliant and better priced since Paul and Andy have taken over.

How did you do that bit?

Hi Ron,

The steering wheel puts out an analogue signal with slightly different voltages for each button. I simply tapped the grey/orange wire which is the steering control and then hooked that to the steering control wire on my cheap chinese stereo. Then within the stereo i could press each button and assign it a function. It works a treat and stereo seems to be holding up OK. I am sure there are better quality ones out there with the same function. I am hoping to come to the show on the 25th and can show you if you like. The Nexia kit is certainly a neater option. The other option is to find another stereo which has amp preout rather than an amplified signal. The one that was in my car when i bought it was a clarion like this and wired straight into the speaker wires without the need for an attenuator but most of the stereo besides radio was stuffed.

Cheers,
Remy

I am loving this cheap chinese stereo. Mucking around with the GPS i have managed to swap it over to now opening Oziexplorer or other .exe WinCE navigation programs. Screenshot showing the moving map with a local topo map.

the best fit bull bar is the HARD RANGE one, i fitted mine myself, with out any special tools just a couple of spanners, they are designed specifically for P38 so no hassles with fitment. Also they are LIGHT, and strong, steel is much heavier cusing more pressure on your front air springs.
