Anyone running rear winch on their vehicles??

If so, are you running cables from the battery in the engine bay (or elsewhere). If from the engine bay what size cable is required over such a distance. Is welding cable better than other cable of the appropriate size.

Thanks

I used to have a super winch husky on the back of my winch challenge 90

I used the second battery in the battery try with cables going to the back. Worked great but not so far for a 90 as in a 110

I'm using very good quality 70mm2 welding cable through the chassis rail to the rear one on my 90. (and the front)

It would easily cope with engine bay to rear of a 110.

I would think it must have 4 or 5 times the current capacity of the cheap stuff that they are supplied with.

Thanks looking at using my 15,000LB ebay winch on the back of both the RRS and 101 connected to the towbar hitch. Not really an option in the front of RRS so on those special trips I could carry it on the tow bar - as indicated the 4' long standard cables would not be anywhere large enough. I need power to the back of both vehicles to run the camper batteries etc so I might as well wire them to do this task as well.

Cheers

to early in the morning for my maths part of my brain to be awake yet.

find out what your maximum amp draw is then get a cable that is capable of double that so that you have no voltage drop (or at least a healthy level above the max demand)
