Hi all,

I fitted a set on the weekend but the rear plastic end cap on both rails does not fit flush with the vehicle roof. I was thinking the wrong end caps have been supplied.

Attached are pictures which better describe the situation. Could someone with the genuine land rover extended rails verify if this is the correct part, or if not, supply a photo of the correct part?

Thanks in advance, Trif.

I am not sure if you have the same issue but I installed a set of Rhino rails on my D4 and had to machine the plastic part at the rear as there was a lot of body filler/caulk where the panels meet at the rear of the roof that was preventing them from sitting flat. The rhino instructions suggested i remove all the material from the vehicle which i decided not to do but that would have also fixed the problem.

I had exactly the same issue when fitting extended rails to my D3, which was pretty much as PaulGOZ said.

Look closely at the top of the bodywork, in the channel at the back and you will probably find a chunk of weld metal from when the factory workers (robots ?) were having a bad day. On mine at least it was painted over nicely...

I considered grinding back this excess weld but chickened out and used a dremel to grind away the underside of the plastic bit from the rails instead. I guess it might have been body filler, not weld metal, but it sure felt hard.

cheers
Geoff

A couple of quick questions..
Have you cut away the black rubberized aluminium section that runs the way along the roof?
And..
Have tyou removed the white plastic clips in the chanel as these hold the rubberized aluminium strip in, but are not required for the roof racks.
And..
Have you fitted the correct ends to each side... l/h to l/h side, not l/h to r/h/s etc

Hope this helps

Hi Sneigy,

Thanks all for your replies.

Firstly the correct cap has been fitted to the correct rail, but your other suggestions are making more sense.

Unfortunately the two rails were received without fitting instructions. I shall remove the white plastic clips holding the rubberized strip in place.

If it is required for correct fitment l shall cut the rubberized aluminium strip, but could you confirm this is required.

Regards Trif.

Instructions make all the difference. I obtained the necessary info last night. The rear 1525mm of the rubberized aluminium strip must be removed. Everything now fits as it should.
