I've sent Dave Ashcroft a PM about this but want to know if anyone does know weather the rover centre with a spacer will bolt up to a P38 housing. My X-Tech is in the dealers for pick up next weekend and I was thinking the first mod I might do is rebuild a rover centre with Ashcrofts 3.50 H/D crown wheel and pinion and do away the the P38 centre which seems to be the biggest problem with the puma defender.Does anyone have any info on this. Thanks Pat

I'm not sure if the hemispheres are interchangale into the carriers, but I'm pretty sure the entire rover carrier (3rd member) fits into a P38 axle housing, but the P38 carrier does not drop into a Rover axle housing.

Hey Pat,

You have got my interest in this mod, it sound like a real good idea.

Are stock ratio's 4.11 : 1 ? and you are going to fit 3.50 : 1 ?

Do Ashcroft have the 4.11 ?

Will you fit Ashcroft lockers at the same time ?

What are Dave's thoughts on the additional strength this will provide ?

Sorry for all the questions.:)

Cheers
Grant

yes stock ratios in the puma are 3.54, i think i will just do a salisbury conversion on the rear once i have run the car in for a while, sals housing d60 centre and 35 spline 1.5in diameter axles... that should hold up well :)

Will be using a dAna 60 centre, hopefully by then I will be able to get an eaton e-locker, but would consider going with a Ashcroft if the made one to suit.... Main Ashcroft item I want is a underdrive unit for my county, just a little to costly for me and shipping would no doubt be a killer

Cal, check the classifieds/markets here, there is a underdrive forsale and also a lt230 with 49% maxidrive lowrange......

Just going to do the 3.50,the vehicle is our family car/tourer so I'm not interested in bigger tyres etc and as you know the standard gearing is spot on.I want the diff set up correctly as it seems to be the reason they are so noisey and have backlash so I figure I may as well fit the stronger CW/P while I'm there. Saw both already, tried to buy the underdrive but missed it :(

I have a 30% reduction transfercase with 1.4:1 high range, along with about an extra 10-15% reduction in first gear because of the patrol gearbox, but want to eventually go back to a 1.2:1 disco transfer with standard low and the ashcroft underdrive, i like the idea of high, medium, low, super low.... :)
