Finally received replacement "Key 2" from the UK thanks to daughter living in London.

Despite photographs of original (key 1), VIN number etc RR Dealer gave her the wrong key...

when she reported it was "wrong key" all denied responsibility and went very quiet:mad:

Persistence from daughter finally paid off and 2 months later they delivered a replacement to her which arrived a couple of days ago AND it works:D.

As a 'consolation' the UK dealership included a new Range Rover key tag...black leather /silver etc in a box: VERY nice. Told SWMBO I need a L322 to go with it ;) ....

As a result I have a brand new perfectly good "key 2" no doubt belonging to some poor sod wondering where his replacement key is... was wondering how I might find out (if it's possible)... what the VIN is and if it is someone on this forum they're welcome to it...

if they were both ordered on the same chassis number then either the lock set has been changed (then that key is useless) or the frequency has been changed (swapping the frequency back will enable that key if the other key fails)

Hi Rupert
I sent my VIN and the lockset is the original... I haven't got the story of why the first key was the wrong one...how many ways can one put 100 keys into the wrong envelope... (rhetorical question...:D)

I suspect the key maker/dispatcher @ Solihull simply put the wrong key into the envelope to the UK dealer who passed it across the counter to my daughter...

I did try the trick of disconnecting / reconnecting the battery, putting my original key in the lock and turning it while pressing the button on the new fob... no luck!!:(

but the replacement key ...excellent!

Can one change the frequency of a new fob to match any VIN without going to the factory? If so would it be possible to get a new blade cut and make up a "key 3"?

sorry, but the key is almost impossible to change. it is really only possible to change the car frequency to match the key, so it's only one key at a time.
