View Full Version : Retrofit Satnav to RRS in Perth?

Good day all!
The RRS is in a container on its way to Perth. It doesn't have the satnav screen (or any screen!) and was wondering if it could be retrofitted and who in Perth can do it? Or if there are better alternatives?
In a month or so, if you see a white 2008 RRS TDV8 with Scorpion ATR tyres and a 'Stratstone MAyfair' sticker on the rear windscreen, it may well be ours, give us a wave! That's assuming that customs steam cleaning doesn't kill it....tried to get all the dirt off but who knows what they will decide.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

It would be cheaper and a lot better to get a 7" screen and an in car PC under the seat.
You can run Centrafuse( Centrafuse | Connected Car Applications (http://www.centrafuse.com) ) through it with navigation

and will allow you to run all sorts of programs eg Oziexplorer, play music, videos, internet (with a wireless stick) Centrafuse | Connected Car Applications (http://www.centrafuse.com/Screenshots.aspx)
It can be made to go into hibernate when the ignition goes off and wake up when it goes on.

thanks caverd3!
I see you're in Sydney, but any idea who could do this in Perth?

You could easily do it yourself if savy or at least with a little help.
Sorry can't help you in perth.
You could try some car stereo installers and ask if they have done an in car PC before.
Even they may need some help from this forum as to where to pick up power etc. :D

I'd be interested to know how you get on with registering the RRS when it arrives, as I'm shipping mine later this year to Melbourne. Out of interest have you owned it for more than a year or not ?
As regards the steam cleaning, I was speaking with a LR dealer here in the UK last week who have shipped a few to Aus, the advice they gave was that the transfer box module is the one that dies when someone gets a bit enthusiastic with the steam cleaner, so if there's anything you can do to protect it or be present when it's done so they don't point the steamer straight at it then do so. Looking under mine I can see what they mean, there's a pile of plugs & wires that are very exposed by the gearbox & transfer box.
Cheers

CaverD3, I would fit it myself but I won't be there - family moving but I'm not for the time being.
Mike_S: Had it since 2008, and was ordered in Australian spec from new (same as rest of world, just needed the documents to show it).
Would recommend getting as much paper work done beforehand as possible, and an agent to handle the paperwork in Aus.
Thanks for the tip regarding steam cleaning. :BigThumb:
