I have looked and looked for my l-series timing hole on the mount bracket. I even got a photograph from aulro, still couldn't find it!!! Could someone help please. Looking from front to back, flywheel is on my left, I see the starter, but can't feel anything below. I have followed another thread stating lay on you back, head towards the back and reach over the gearbox to feel for it. All I got was a black hand. I really want my beloved landy going. Can anyone please help!
Thanks in advance.

Good luck - I know where it is but have never been able to see it - I am doing work on the cam belts and not have locked the crankshaft but have marked it up well so I will know if it has moved.

Another stupid execution by Landrover of a good idea.

Its between the IRD and the block. you get it from underneath, you can not get your hands to it, you will have troubles seeing it. its a 6mm hole and you will need a magnet and screwdriver to fit it.
This engine was designed to be a 2wd the IRD is very much in the way.

I think I might take it to a high cliff and push the piece of crap off the edge............

Depends on what you are doing - but most work will not actually need it locked if you take various precautions.
