Folks

The latest in-dash entertainment I am getting in the P38 is the occasional oil light coming on for 10 or 15 seconds at a time.

So far it only happens at idle, say sitting at the lights.

As soon as it gets some revs it disappears.

Oil was changed about 6 weeks & 2000 kms ago, and is still full.

Anyone else had this scenario ?

Changed the oil pressure switch lately? A common failure mode. Often with oil dripping off the end of the switch.

Definitely not normal.
I have never had this in 11yrs.
What milage have you got on the 38?
I would be investigating the wiring from the pressure sender, could be a bad connection. Take it off give it a clean make sure its a tight fit.
Pressure relief spring could be shot?
Or you have a bung sensor?
Or your engine/oil pump is worn out.(at idle this would be more evident)
What is your idle speed? In drive and neutral?

I would usually suspect the sensor first before delving deeper into other possibilities.
Could just be on the way out and gving weird readings.

It has happened to me about three times in the last forty seven years. Each time it was a faulty oil pressure switch. The most recent time was just last year.

So I agree with bee utey and PeterH. It is fairly common and the cheapest of all the possibilities to try first.
