Hi All,

took my disco 4 (2.7) in for it's 2500km 'health check' today. Free service offered by dealer down here. Had a few things to sort - mainly just adjustments to the front doors and some dash rattles - nothing major. However, did mention to them I had noticed a very slight vibration through the steering wheel when braking lightly - thought it might be the rotors and thought let them know now in case they get worse and later maybe not covered by warranty.

When I returned they said that LR had a service notice that covered the slight vibration and they had been asked to change the hydroform (whatever!) front bushes and the steering rack and steering wheel!!

To me the vibration was ever so slight - I can understand the bushes but all the other stuff?

Still can't complain but seems like overkill - any thoughts out there?

Hi,

I have a D4, 2.7 MY11

I've had this subtle vibration at about 60kph through the steering column since new. I've mentioned this at the 12k health check and was advised there is no problem. They stated that is was the AT tyres on the vehicle.

Can you please enlighten the forum what the LR Service Advice No is so I can mention it prior to my vehicles next service

Hi,

Sorry, they waved the service print out in front of me but I didn't have my glasses on so didn't see any numbers :eek:. However, they tell me the parts are due in five days so it's booked in Monday - I will ask for the number then and post the info.

I'm still a bit shell shocked really - I'm more used to being looked at sideways when I come up with problems with cars - maybe LR dealers are better than the rest.......

Hi Agro et al,

Collected the disco today - TSB No is 00317 issued in June.

The dealer has done a Range Rover as well (least I'm in good company!!).

They don't seems to know why all the bits need replacing - the bulletin says they should replace the hydra bushes steering rack and steering wheel and on road test if there is still a vibration under brakes then the rotors and pads as well. In my case they did the lot!

They did a wheel alignment, new wheel slightly out in the straight ahead - was like this on delivery which they fixed - bit of a pain but will leave it for the time being as I can't be asked to take it back in just now!

They also fixed most of the little bits and pieces - now have nicely hung front doors, seat trim in place correctly, rear tailgate trim re-fitted but a couple of rattle in console and dash still there - maybe next time!

I also asked for a litre of top up engine oil which they supplied for free! (hope i don'tneed it..)

Am off at the weekend towing my 2.5t van all the way to Cairns - have made sure my roadside assistance card is in my wallet!!

Still the bad things you hear about a relauctance to fix stuff or the long wait for parts from the UK have been dispelled so am now feeling a bit more confident in renewing LR ownership.

Question - does anyone know if you can run the heating on auto without the air on (not much call for air in Tassy), my mazda does it....:angel:

Just set the temperature & let the car do it's thing & keep that temp.:D

Set the temperature on Auto, then press the A/C button to turn off the air. The indicator light on the A/C button will go off. You can still change the temperature settings and adjust the fan speed if needed. The A/C will only come on again if you press the Auto button or the A/C button again, or if you press the de-mister button.

Just going back to the wheel wobble issue, I had that from new in my 3.0 RRS I bought in June last year, particularly under brakes.
I took it back to the dealer in Perth pretty promptly...it took FIVE MONTHS for them to get the parts from the UK.

You probably already know this, but you can turn the entire air system off and on just by operating the fan speed control. Then you can turn the compressor off and on at will, or adjust air direction etc. Once you press the Auto button you seem to lose control.

Hope this helps and is not just stating what you already know.

Difference in fuel economy with it on or off is so insignificant I'd say leave it on, set the temp you like and let it go....

Dont think its ever been off in the D2 or D3 here :)

Hi Sollidisc, sorry to hear about your steering problem, but glad they got it fixed.
My D4 3.0 is coming up to 2500kms, so must check if dealership here offers a free check up, as I am about to head North, also to the Cairns area, on 26th Aug; So Look out for a D4 towing an 18ft Bushtracker, and maybe we can enjoy a beer, or two, along the way.

Hi But n Ben,

We are in Miles at the moment and we have decided to go to Emerald then Agnes Waters - some people on the way recommended Agnes Waters so change of plan-we only want to be warm - only 19 here today :mad:. The drive so far has been really good - we are towing a Regal 20ft semi off road - the disco is made for towing 14.8l at 95-100 and very stable. Would have been good to catch up with a fellow disco 4 owner - no others on the road so far - but scored a wave from a solo disco 3!!!

You can do that on the D4 as well, it's not just a Mazda thing.

Like I said, just use the fan speed knob to turn it off and on and adjust fan speed. You can still set temperature and everything else without the air con compressor. Then just turn the air con compressor on and off at will.

If you set to maximum cold, then the compressor WILL start up, but otherwise you are in the drivers seat.

You might not be aware that there are vent switches that may need to be set once the compressor is turned-off. They can also be used in auto mode.

You may not be alone in having all the work done - apparently another Discovery 4 (maroon coloured) has had the same level of change, while visiting the Cairns area.
