Took the mat off the underside of ther Defender bonnet before it goes off to the paint shop today, and it was in a bit of a state. Just wondered what people were using as a replacement, or is it easier to just buy a new one?

Hi jik22

If the mat is not too bad, do as I have done and using a pressure pack, spray the loose bits with acrylic paint, then push the bits back into place while its still wet.
Acrylic doesn't take long to dry and mine has lasted well with this treatment.

Daft question, but isn't that like putting a fire hazard under the bonnet?
Good idea though, if there's flame-proof equivalent, though I did also think it's sound deadending days might be long behind mine! :(

Hi jik22

Whilst I am fairly sure that the fumes from wet acrylic paint may burn. I would say that you would be having greater and more serious problems before dry, hard paint caught alight.
As my sound absorbing mat has been in place for more than a couple of years after the repair and without the need to have a claim for insurance on the account of fire, I'm confident that it is a safe economical fix.

There are heat proof paint's available in pressure packs, I haven't used them on this type of repair, so I can't vouch for their effectiveness.

Cheers Arthur
