Lights flash when indicators are on...help!

Hello everyone,
I picked up my Discovery 3 (2005, 2.7, SE) from Newcastle last month where my mechanic mate had been working on it for me. He's installed a cargo barrier, ARB winchbar, rear wheel carrier and roofrack. As well as changing the timing belt and replacing the front diff.

Now I've got the car back in Darwin I've noticed that the brake lights, park lights and number plate light all flash in time with the left and right indicator. This only happens with the indicators on as far as I can tell. Any ideas what might be causing this? It looks like a christmas tree at the back...

Any help would be greatly appreciated as far as I know there isn't a reliable Land Rover mechanic here in Darwin.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I could say something half plausible like "maybe it's a faulty earth" but I have no ideas other than a wiring issue when the bullbar indicators were connected up.

The D3 looks more daunting to muck about with than my D2. I'm sure someone will be along soon to offer (useful) advice.

I'm assuming your rear wheel carrier & ARB has lights ; it will be a "splice
to the wiring harness" fault . They're getting a feed from the indicator
circuit . A LOT of mechanics think they know car electrics , when they
often don't ................
Pull it apart and reassemble it wire by wire , with testing .
Start at the back end .

its an earthing fault.

Thanks for the responses. The bullbar has lights, the rear wheel carrier not. I think I've narrowed the search a little. The ARB bar has it's own indicators and park lights. the left park light is blown...

I'll have a look at it tomorrow, but I think I'll end up taking it to an auto-eletrician.

Hey everyone,
I found the problem, the connection between the bullbar and the left headlight was dodgy. Very dodgy wiring indeed, when I took the tape off the connections half a dozen wires came loose.

All fixed now, no more Christmas tree Disco 3.

I'd almost agree with that, except he changed the front and rear timing belts, replaced front diff, installed a cargo barrier, black widow roof rack and 4x4 Intelligence rear wheel carrier. All that with no problems.

Perhaps I should have withheld the payment (beer) until the entire project was finished. The wiring did look a little as though it was done by a drunk ;)

It's a great car and I can't wait to take in down the Gibb River Road in October.
