Went to the Boat Show and had a look at a few boats and thought well I am only going to get one chance to buy a new boat so I put a deposit on this one.

{broken link removed}

I have looked at a lot of boats and been out a few with the fishing club I am in but nothing rides as well as the Barcrusher.

Even better, the wife was with me and she also wanted to buy this boat and model.

They called me today to say they are welding her up as we speak and it will be in my yard in 5 weeks.

Can't wait to get out and catch a few fish out of it.

The deal was with a 115 Evinrude E-tec but I up sized to the 130 HP. More grunt and more fuel efficient. Once up on the plane can back off and save fuel.

Was going to go 4 stroke but after seeing this video and talking to other guys that have the E-tec I was sold. 5 year guarantee and no service till 300 hours.

They called today to say it will be here at the end of September

Yeah Baby!!!!!

ETECs punch hard but please please please please DONT wait 300 hours till you service it unless you do more than 300 a year OR if you plan to sell it soon.

Gear bag and impellor wont be a happy thing to service if you do the 'normal' 50-100 engine hours a year. By 300hours which = 5 years of corrosion its just plain jane gonna hurt!

The best solution is to run it hard and punch 300 hours a year ;)

(who does 5 x 50 hour and 2 x 100 hour services a year)

I looked at an etec for my boat. Power to weight was ~0.5 HP/kg for the etec vs ~0.6 HP/kg for a yamaha F70.

You would not believe it. I have been waiting for a property settlement for two months now and it is finally through on Tuesday next week. The boat has been ready for the past 4 weeks and the guys at Blakes Marine have been very good and understanding.

Went out on the sea trial a couple of weeks ago. What a boat. The ballast tank that fills when you stop is unreal. We went to Bluefish in the slop chop and tested the difference between the ballast full and then closed the flap and tried it empty. The stability with the ballast full has to be seen to be believed. 4 of us on one side of the boat in slop chop and it hardly moved.]

I also upgraded to the Lowrance HDS 7 plotter sounder combo. I also put on trim tabs.

When I hook it up next week I will send through heaps of photos.

Anyone interested in my old Quintrex 16 foot Fishabout. You can check it out on Boatsales at this link

Well finally got the settlement and went and picked up the new boat.

http://img710.imageshack.us/img710/4963/pb250145.jpg

Picked it up from Blakes at McGraths Hill near Windsor and went with the dealer down to the river to get the hang of putting on and off the trailer using the Barcatch system that allows you to drive the boat up on the trailer and catch it on your own.

http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/9130/pb250154.jpg

Drives up onto the trailer with no problems at all even if you don't get it a hundred percent straight in a wind or current.

Took it out on Sunday and went offshore. The wind was blowing 30 knots NW and there was a 1.5m SE swell. Very pleasant conditions indeed but a great test for the new unit.

I have been out in many boats but the speed at which I was able to travel and the comfort of the ride as well as being dry was beyond my expectations.

On the fish side we did very poorly. Possibly due to the atrocious conditions. My son hooked up a good fish and fought it for 20 minutes before it got him down on the reef and cut him off.

Anyway very happy camper looking forward to doing many more hours in Taylor Maid - our name for the new unit

Noice Chenz.

I'm sure the Pord handles it with ease, but I look forward to seeing it hooked up behind the Red Terror.

Have to organise a fishing trip and see if I can stay undrowned ;)
