View Full Version : Made the decision - D4 ordered

I posted a message last week about having purchased our new D4, however, an apparent server problem at www.aulro.com (http://www.aulro.com/) meant a "restore from a previous backup was required" and hence the post disapeared.

During our vehicle search, I emailed a few dealers asking for assistance. Two in Brisbane did not bother to reply, probably too busy or more likely too lazy to take the risk of no return business and not bothered to reply. I might send them an email telling them of our purchase. Probably would not bother them if the previous comment is their attitude.

One sales rep did take the time to reply and has been very helpful with all of my questions. Living overseas, we could not look at the vehicle or visit the dealer. He took a lot on faith that we were in fact looking for a vehicle and although overseas, did intend to purchase something, be it Land Rover or another manufacturer. Thank you Paul James from Austral Motors Brisbane.

OK, we have ordered our D4 3.0L SE, 2012 spec but Aug 2011 build. Main difference I understand is that the front seats have arm rests, and there is an ipod connection. Delivery November 2011. No options ordered, just stock standard and white. As we require it mid Oct when we return to Australia, Paul has been most helpful in providing a loan vehicle.

We are looking forward to seeing and driving a Discovery 4, as the last Discovery I saw was around 2004, when I nearly purchased one, but decided to go overseas to work instead.

Finally and as I have said in other posts, I would like to thank everyone on this forum, www.aulro.com (http://www.aulro.com), for all of the helpful and courteous advice provided to my questions and questions from others.

Best wishes

Bruce,
Congrats.
Only option you should absolutely see if you could get included is the e-diff. For about $1,000 that will be money well spent particularly if you intend to use this off road. Should also add to the re-sale as well.
I would check if you can get that added, otherwise enjoy the new purchase.
George.

E-Diff and Bi-xenon lights. Bi-xenon were standard in the D3 but an option in the D4.

Bruce,
Congratulations on the new purchase.
And yes Paul is a great bloke, good mate & we have done many new vehicle releases together.
Cheers.

I appreciate everyone's comments and suggestions, re the electronic diff and lights. I will give it some thought, and look at what my main use for the vehicle will be.
Best wishes

The lights came standard on my early D4 SE and I also ordered the e-diff.
Another option that I wouldn't do without is the rear air conditioning.
Some think that it is only beneficial to the 6th & 7th seat passengers, however it is the 3rd, 4th & 5th passengers that really appreciate it.
Cheers, Craig

That's the exact list I've got on my D4 SE arriving soon Craig!
I actually chose to buy this car off the dealers inventory because it already had those options on the colour I wanted, which was Stornaway Grey, but now will be Orkney Grey which is even better!
e-diff
bi-zenons
rear air con
+ rubber mats
The car might arrive without bi-zenons, but as we agreed on them, the dealer will swap out lights if needed to satisfy that.

Xenon lights are an option on the 3.0 SE. It seems one step forward for Land Rover (xenon lights standard on the D3 - see WhiteD3 post) and one step back (remove the xenon lights). I am still thinking about it, but they are not cheap, and need to find out if the spec can be changed on the car.

Re the rear air conditioning, there are just the two of us, and probably a dog. I am sure the dog will not mind if there is no rear air con for him. Thanks for the suggestion though.

When I purchased my D4 SE 3.0 late 2009, the xenon lights were standard.
Another add on I chose was the auto high / low beam headlights. Bit of a ****, but for another $400.00, I would get them again.
Cheers, Craig

Congrats on the purchase you won't be sorry. We also wanted the bi xenons on ours but needed the car straight away.
Having taken the car for a long drive on the weekend it is awsome

Good choice, I just picked up my D4 SE in Stornaway Grey 4 days ago from Sydney. As I live in the country I did all my dealings via email & phone. I was lucky enough to have most of the options I wanted in floor stock - Rear A/C, Xenon lights, 3.0 eng among a few other things. The only thing I wanted was the touch screen audio unit. This I was confused with the premium audio on the LR website. Now i'm desperate for a solution to connect my iPhone & iPod while avoiding the messy wires using the AUX input...

Have a look at this page

and then this page

Can't believe that even if a software upgrade messes the Bluetooth up it can't be altered to work again though ...:(

Les.

Yes thank you, someone pointed this out to me earlier. I may swap this particular discussion to an earlier thread I saw regarding aftermarket screens etc..

Ah, the good old days...when the D4 was new and clean. I don't think you people with brand new vehicles would like to see a picture of mine in its working clothes, with mud splats on the mirrors, windows, door handles and all along the sides, although I did clean the windows and door tops recently.
