The front belts in my Defender dont retract very well.
The rear ones - one is a bit frayed, another the socket part has the housings missing.

So I'm looking to replace.

Best place to buy?

Want original spec type ones not bodgy aftermarket "not quite right" solution.

Seat belts are important, mmkay !

I use and recommend Klippan belts. These are "bodgy aftermarket not quite right" as fitted to current model Fords and Holdens. The retracters are better sealed than Defender originals, they fit up well and the adjustable web (versus stalk) version in particular allows a comfortable fit for every seating position. You can buy them pretty much anywhere. Particularly bodgy aftermarket shops.

ROFL Thanks Scrambler.

Any chance you;d kno seii mdelnuers for the blts Id need?

You wouldn't happen to be able to recommend any particular brands of shops, and I presume you mean locally rather than out of the UK.

What are prices like.

I bought a klippan one from repco a while back. Cost around the $100 mark (a little over if i remember right). Have the part number at home but can't remember it off the top of my head. When i installed mine had to put a washer on either side of the original bottom mount with a nut, as on the 1996 defender the seat belt is around that mount with no bolt. If you can get hold of the earlier landrover (ie county and series three) their bottom mount is identical except that it is designed to take the bolt i believe.

I'll check the numbers tomorrow, Vlad. I bought from SuperCheap for one and Repco for the other. At SuperCheap you takes you chances with what they have on their shelves. From memory prices a few of years ago were about $90. I did find an online place that had them at lower prices but decided I wanted them immediately.

You could always pop over to my place as I have 2 sets going free. I was forced to replace them when I brought the 90's into the country. Just sitting in my garage at the moment.
Just to add they are the original Landrover Belts.

If anybody has 2 spare stalks (socket part) for the rear of a 130, I'd be interested. Otherwise I'll replace them with belt types.

Sorry for the hijack :p

Amazing what you can do with google :p

APVAutomotive Safety Products - Seat Belt Replacement Guide (Klippan's parent company) (http://www.apvautomotive.com/safetyproducts/wps/wcm/connect/APVAutomotive/Home/APVAutomotive_SA/Product%20Range/Seat%20Belt%20Replacement%20Guide.php)

(BTW, they don't show a specific front for the Defender but list belts fro the back seat of the wagon)

[edit] and I just found this on their site

Also, while most seat belts are not hard to replace, in some states, such as New South Wales, it is law that seat belts must be replaced at a seat belt fitting station.

If you're lucky you don't, but with Qld's transport departments reputation :D

Hmm turns out the UK and Australian seatbelts are different - the plugs and sockets (for want of a technical term) are different sizes.

The UK ones are smaller. :(

The UK ones will also fail you rego* as they most likely won't be AS approved.
