Hi all, not been on here for a while so there are probably already answers for these two questions, but I can't seem to find the right ones in search option. I am wanting to replace the OE wrangler tyres 255/60/18 on my D4 and was hoping to get some advice on the best option, keeping the same rims. Also, I have just the standard CD player and was wondering if there are any options available for an aftermarket upgrade or at the least some way of plugging an ipod into it. Dissapointing that 80K doesn't get you an aux input, but the sound quality is fine for our requirements. Any input and assistance would be much appreciated.

There is an aux port - IIRC (I havent used mine for nearly 18 months) its inside the centre cubby box.

Hi Graeme, just went out and had a look and cant see any ports in the big centre cubby box on the D4. Nothing in the upper glove box either.

You can make your own "aux" plug ... Adding AUX input to S - Land Rover Discovery 3 (http://disco3.the-schuttes.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=28&Itemid=39)
cheers

Hi Oldsalt, I will try and pop that panel off tomorrow and see if thats the same on the D4. That would be an easy fix to one of my dilema's if it is. Thanks

Its beside the aux power outlet behind the back of the centre cubby, under the flap.

Yes its here.

Its a 3.5mm stereo socket and I have used it for the kids DVD player and its works well.

How about behind the centre console? It is only a 3.5mm jack(mini headphone socket)you are looking for.

If not, and I do seem to remember that the earlier D4's standard stereos may not have had them, the OldSalt's linked thread can fix that.

Regards,

Les.

The socket is there for early base model audio systems too (mine).

Do a search in the D3 section for tyres. There's lots of threads. FYI I just put Pirelli Scorpion ATR's on my D4. I had these on the D3 and was very happy with them but I was keen to try something else. Problem was that nothing else was in stock in Aust at the time (4 weeks ago).

Had a look today and there are no sockets for power or anything on the centre cubby box. Mine has the socket at the front of the console just below the dash. Looks like I will have to pursue the side panel removal and the cables suggested. Jax has quoted me $395 for the Pirelli and $255 for a General Grabber, but that sounds too cheap for a decent tyre.

Are you saying there's no plastic flap on the outside of the back of the centre cubby box that's accessed from the 2nd row seat area?

Hi. Don't dismiss the GG AT. I've done 5500km with them on my D4 19 inch rims. Excellent road manners (both wet and dry) and low road noise. Excellent offroad (mud, rock and gravel) with no punctures or side wall damage. Tread wear is even and minimal so far. I'm doing a 5 tyre rotation every 5000 kms.

I have the D4 3.0 SE with base audio, and do have the AUX IN.

Have you found the power outlet that is on the back of the console? It is under a plastic flap on the back of the console (access from 2nd row footwell area). The aux-in is next to it, under the flap.

By the way, there is also a slide out cupholder there as well - right down next to the floor, and easy to miss.

I could say that because I looked last night and didn't see any sockets, but then I wasn't looking for a flap of any sort. I am wondering if you mean a big flap that covers both sockets ? The car is actually in for a service today so I will have a closer look when I pick it up. Maybe I should have spent more time reading the handbook.

Hi Trif, Does that sound like the same tyre at that price? If so I will have a serious look at it because that is a massive saving of $600 for a set of 4 and with 45000ks on the clock in 12 months, its an expensive exercise each year. Thanks

Hi again. I believe they would be the same tyre. My 19's were fitted for $296 each. The 18's are usually cheaper for the same tyre. Here is a link to another thread showing the tyres fitted new to my car. You can verify if they are the same tyre as you have been quoted.

The thread starts off about GG AT2 (the older model) but more recent posts are regarding the newer GG AT. In regards to fuel economy, this has improved since those posts, l think probably due to the engine running in.

Regards Trif.

Yes, that's it.
I was aware of its existance from the D4 release info. I had a patch lead with me when I picked-up the vehicle in order to have music on the 600 km drive home.

I think someone broke into my car overnight and installed those plugs. Who would have thought they were hidden under that big black flap. Thanks to all for your help.

Hi trif, they look like a fairly robust tyre. I had a set of the scorpions on a previous vehicle and found them good for traction, but only got about 30,000ks from the set. I will probably give the GG AT's a try because they seem like excellent value for money and from the forum, ahve a pretty good reputation. Iwill amke sure that they are the correct model GG.

Thanks

I wish someone would break into my garage & install that new D4!
Who would have thought they could put that under a big flap they call dealer delays ... :wasntme:

Probably the same practical jokers from this forum who uninstalled it the previous night so that you think you're going crazy. :)
