Tallest battery

hi guys, i have put the Traxide dual battery kit into my 2.7 D4 and am looking for a battery for the tray which sits in fron of the main battery on the passenger side.

I know the D34 Optima will fit, but i am wondering if anyone has used anything taller - eg this remco battery:

It is 208mm high, so a bit higher than the D34, then you have to add the bolt height for the eye terminal attachment. But it is 80Ah, and the length and width are ok.

Has anyone put anything like this in on their passenger side? Does anyone know the highest battery that will fit.

Hi Lucas, and while I can't help you with the battery, you can gain a little more headroom if you set the battery terminal claps up the same way I have them for the battery in the auxiliary battery compartment on D3s 9 and D4s ).

To get about 15mm more clearance, take the wing nuts of the clamps, remove the bolt from the under side and then using the bolt only to secure the cables to the battery clamps, screw the bolt back in from the top.

Bumpity bump - anyone feel like measuring the height of their battery if it is not a D34 and is on the passenger side in front of the cranking battery?

Hi IRONDOC,

I have an Odyssey PC1200 battery. It comes in it's own metal case, and has the terminals orientated to the rear. I have a modified Magna battery case, including the nylon undertray. The PC1200 is as I have it configured, is 200mm high at the posts. I could possibly go a touch higher, as I can slide the battery in about another 30mm, but I went for as much clearance from the motor as possible.

I had a good look around, and all the batteries of any real capacity advantage over the D34 and the PC1200 were far too high and long. ( or not available in Oz ) I have settled on my current setup, and now look at what I have drawing from this battery, and how I can reduce that draw. I have already swapped a lot of globes/lights to LED's.

Hi Irondoc. I have a Federal 9AGM48 series 70 Ah in my D4. It is 278 mm long, 175mm wide and 190 mm high sitting in a tray in front of the main battery on the left hand side. This just fits and not sure I would want it any higher for safety.

I have a Remco RM12-80 that I temporarily fitted to a home-made tray in front of my D4's main battery. I had to raise the bonnet stops and catches about 5mm to clear the battery. My Remco has bolt-on terminals. The Traxide battery try may sit lower than mine.
