G'day,

I'm just about to put the little girl in for a timing belt change, she's got 298k on the clock and will be telling the mechanic to give here a full service.
What should I expect him to do at a 300k service and what extras should I ask to be done.

thanks

On the presumption that over the last 200 odd thou km you haven't had to do anything major, the 300tdi might benefit from these extras:

New set timing belt tensioner/idler pulleys. ( + Cam & crank seals)
Change out brake/clutch fluid (Although this should come under the heading of normal service)
Change out coolant.(Ditto)
Change out power steer fluid ( Ditto)
New Upper/Lower/bypass/heater hoses.
New Serpentine belt, tensioner assembly (the spring does tend to sag a bit over time and causes 'chirping') , tensioner bearing, AC belt bearings
Clean intercooler ( Norm Service)
Clean injector tips
Renew short hose to turbo waste gate - tends to perish behind the turbo
New exhaust manifold gasket.
Reset valve clearances (Norm service)

If you haven't had a problem with the head before - treat yourself to a new head gasket.

think about a new fan bearing located on the timing cover - I used a grease needle to inject grease into my original and it's still OK at 400k - but others have had theirs replaced earlier.

Pay attention to the hubs/bearings/seals. It may not need new bearings, but they will like being cleaned, re-greased, new seals and being checked for grooves on the hub.

You did ask....:)
