Hey Guys.

Just put a set of 265/75/R16 mud runners on my 92' Discovery (no lift kit) and need to trim the fenders and install flares. Does anyone have a detailed procedure on how to do this? I am happy following pics from the net on the front wheel arch (it seems fairly straight foward), but I think I need a bit more than pics to do the back fenders espically when cutting around the rear passenger door? Any advice would be awesome, thanks.

Thanks guys.

Do you have any advice on what brand and size of flares to get and where to get them? Additionally do they just come in a standard one size fits all kind of deal?

Cheers.

They generaly come in 50mm and 75mm. Search for Flexiflares. Flatdog do them for a good price. There was a group buy last year that saved a bit on postage. I'm in the market for some in the near future if someone wants to go in a group buy.

I'll have to look up the last post but I think they packaged them three to box. I see there are at least 3 people in Melbourne that could share postage. I might have to make some inquiries and get back on this.

Hey Guys.

Generally what is preferred 50mm or 75mm? I'm a newbie to all this, so does the 75mm mean it protrude from the fender panel more or does this mean it will allow more room for the tyre to move, hence require a larger cut out? I have a set of 32's on so would 50mm be sufficient?

Cheers.

It means the distance protruding out from the side of the fender. I think 50mm would be fine for 32-33" tyres on offset rims but if looking at 35's the 75mm would be better.

I'm in need of some 50mm (at least) flexi's, just been putting it off for a while as the car is not a daily driver. I'm in perth, but can get them freighted over from a group buy if required. Otherwise if someone is over here and interested in sorting an order of some sort, let me know

Does anybody know how to fill the gap between the outer and inner panels of the rear door when trimming the guard. I had a look at this link http://www.discoweb.org/ecrflares/index.htm (http://www.discoweb.org/ecrflares/index.htm) but not sure how he fills the gap. I have heard some people use expanding foam and others say not to?

The LRA f/glass flares cap the cut section of the doors but the flexi flares dont so some generous amounts of sikaflex or other silicone sealer will be required.

The LRA ones look like the best in that regard, shame about the pricing. Problem is the gap is fairly wide, I've got some flat steel I'm going to try and tack weld in there to keep the sikaflex from sagging.

Does anyone have a set of the plastic flares? I have heard that the Fibreglass one are unfavourable due to their low ductility hence crack easily. But if the Fibreglass ones fill the gap in the door, it is going to save a whole bunch of far arsing around sealing the gap. What do you guys recommend?

I had the plastic flares and have since gone to the LRA fibreglass ones/

They appear to be built better and are better designed to fill the gap in the rear door etc. They also come with new dust seals for the rer wheel arch of te D2.
