Hoping someone can help me with a recent problem, whereby my Motorola Atrix will no longer establish a network data connection. Wi-Fi is OK, but I cannot download data via Telstra 3G. I have checked the APN settings, and have also re-installed them via the Telstra mobile setup website. I cannot download e-mail, use the browser , or send MMS, although the phone and text messaging work normally.

There is no apparent reason for it not to work, but it won't! It is not a problem with my Telstra 3G account, because if I put the SIM in another handset data operation is fine, so whatever the problem is, it is specific to my Atrix handset. It was purchased as a replacement for a Motorola Defy which was lost, and was an unbranded Telstra 3G compatible handset.

I am not sure, but I am wondering whether a recent upgrade to Android 2.3.4 may have caused the problem. At the time, I assumed the upgrade had come through Telstra, but as there are several Bell apps on the phone, I am suspicious that this upgrade could have been sent from the US. and may be causing the problem. The phone was purchased as unbranded, so I don't understand how this could have happened.

Are there any settings I can check? All seems to be in order, but I may have missed something. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Lionel

I have solved this problem, which WAS caused by the 2.3.4 upgrade, which came from Bell Canada. The handset I have, although purchased as unlocked (SIM) and unbranded, is in fact a Bell Canada one. Hence the software upgrade from Android 2.2 to 2.3.4.

For some reason, if on NextG, the Telstra APN's don't work anymore, and have to be modified. There is plenty of info on www.whirlpool.net.au (http://www.whirlpool.net.au)

Any Android phone users who use imported handsets, as opposed to those supplied by local networks, should be aware of this potential trap. That said, the upgrade is certainly an improvement!
