Back again with another problem

So I got the P38 rebuilt and is running great so I moved on to the next land rover.

I installed a dual battery system and some new 55watt HID headlights (were 110watt halogen) and now whenever I turn the lights on (with car running or not) the hazards start flashing and the doors won't lock, I've put halogens back in and it works fine. I've installed several kit before but this is the first time in a modern computer controlled car.

Will the defender take HIDs or do I have to go back to halogens? Would me buying an OBE or whatever they call it tool so I can see if any fault codes come up?

Thanks

It will be the radio interference from the ballast(s). I have HID lights and can hear the high pitch whine from them, and then in an underground carpark, the car radio, devoid of regular signal, transmitted hash - until I turned the lights off. Supposedly they are shielded, but obviously it's interfering. RF choke's come in a variety of forms and are easy to make.

I had the same problem on my 110 when I ran a single battery.

I fitted an Optima battery and SC80 and ran the power supply to the relays off the Optima - no problem since then.

I've installed 3 batteries, one for the engine, one for the fridge and the other for the accessories which is where to the headlights are powered off. I'll speak to my lighting supplier and ask him about using a choke.

I'll take some pics and show you what I have done.

Thanks for all the comments
