paperwork advice - putting an 80" back on the road

As I gather spares / parts to rebuild my '52 80" up in FNQ, I'm keen to start understanding the paperwork needed to put her back on the road in QLD.

To date all I have in hand is a bill of sale.... (+ chassis / engine numbers).

Advice on this process and the docs required would be appreciated.

Drew, I'm sure others will add

*But my understanding a Road Worthy Certificate RWC is compulsory. QLD Transport can issue you with day or a couple days permit to get this done.

*From there it's your call to insure, Compressively, Third Party, or none. I just spoke to Shannons and they will comprehensively cover me for daily driver, or 3 or 4 times a month, or club status so there are few options, non expansive. Actually insurance should be first thing done.

*If you want club registration status, you need to belong to a club, and obtain a letter with club details, your membership, age of vehicle, and authenticity. The club president usually will get this sorted for you.

I am going for 6 month rego, with daily driver comp insurance and see how the novelty wears. After that I'll probably change it over to club rego and insurance.

Jason's pretty much on the money. Once you're ready for roadworthy inspection, you need the special form filled in from Transport Dept, which allows you to drive to the inspection station of your choice.

Funnily enough, you can drive there, but if the vehicle doesn't pass inspection, legally you're not allowed to drive it back home again :eek:

Hi,

for my 55 series 1, at Vic Roads i had to provide,

- bill of purchase - Vehicle Purchase Reciept, make sure the reciept has the previous owners name, address, and dated / signed by him/her that they have handed the vehicle over too you for that agreed price.

i forgot the Address and they Busted my chops over it.......!


- Engine No. & Chassis No.

- Roadworthy - Valid for 30 days

- Engineers Report (As my landy had a Holden Engine in it)

thats about it.

I do know that in Victoria any Vehicle pre 1969 that came out from Factory, if the vehicle is origional with no modifications, it may be Registered without Seatbelts & Indicators.

PS, one more tip. When you buy a Vehicle and it may have just run out of Rego you have approx 2 weeks to Retain the Plates in Your Name. All i had to to was fill out a Transfer of Rights Agreement form which also had to be signed by the previous owner. This is ideal if you know the Vehicle has the Origional Plates and always gives the vehicle its finishing touch. Not always the case though! but good to know!

In Victoria now, I believe you have to provide proof that the car was previously registered within Australia , or proof and documentaion proving that you imported it . You can provide a stat declaration but it takes some work to convince them . One case was: a guy brought in an old windscreen with the old rego sticker on it .

It depends to a large degree on which branch you go to. It's nuts but that's the truth . Some of them demand a receipt for the engine if the motor has been changed and they also want to know who installed the motor, believe me it happens. They can behave like the KGB on bad day.

All this stuff is because of a few cases stolen cars being re-registered and now, they crack down on any misnomers or irregularities .

Some of the Vic roads staff were caught giving out driving licenses to anybody and some people ended up with multiple licenses in different names
