Here is the only decent pic I have taken of it so far.
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2011/10/261.jpg
5.0 m Blue Fin Viking w 3mm sides and 4 mm bottom. It is basically a bare hull at this stage - needs to be fitted out.
Engine is a Yamaha F70A tiller.
It has done ~5500 km on the road and only ~2 hrs in the water so far. Need to change that
EDIT: Forgot to add - I saved quite a bit by buying it in Brisbane. WA prices are $$$$$$$

Noice one Ben,
Been a long train coming!
Now first get rid of that poxy excuse for a trailer and put her on something worthy.
And then put a few hours on that 70 so i can get some numbers off you!
I need WOT rpm, speed at WOT, fuel burn at that rpm would be nice too!
Which gauges did they put in for you? The mulifunction digital ECU jobbies?
Anyway, stoked for you mate, get her in the drink eh!

I got 2 digital multifunction gauges. They have installed the main loom for the gauges, but I still need to install them.
One is a tach (+ hrs, trim and a couple of other warnings I think) and the other is speedo/fuel.
Happy to give you all the numbers you want.
So far the motor has ~5 hrs and I have gone through ~15 L of premium unleaded.

Numbers would be good once you have run her in. I think the f70 will be my next power plant.
You got a prety keen deal if they put in the CANBUS dig gauges for the price you mentioned a few months ago?
I have an interesting possible 4 link design for the suspension for her new trailer if you are interested. Will keep airspring and dampers well away from salt, but still allow full travel and ability to drop height for beach launch? Have sketched it whilst on leave but drawing it digitally is gonna be tricky on android!

Time for the fit out...
Bought some Everdure to treat the plywood deck. Also bought a Johnson 1600GPH Bilge pump and fittings.
Boatboard is unavailable in WA (they told me it is an "east coast thing"), but I got a good price on black HDPE. I also got a reasonable price on quality flotation foam sheets. The plan is to add extra flotation to the gunwales, then sheet over it with HDPE, which, combined with marine sikaflex and scuppers, will give me a semi-sealed, self draining deck...
Here are the guages that need to be installed:
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p29/isuzurover/October_2011004.jpg
One is: Speedo/fuel/trip/time/batt
The other is: Tach/trim-tilt/temp/oil
I also bought the largest/tallest oil-water separator that I could find in stock.

scuppers, will give me a semi-sealed, self draining deck
We found scuppers don't work that well in small boats, ended up sealing them up. The floor is not high enough above the water to keep the water from coming in through the opened scuppers when your bobbing around.

Hmm - OK - thanks. There seem to be a lot of boats these days made with sealed, delf draining decks. Many f these just have a big hole around the motor - i.e. don't even have scuppers.
Maybe a better design of scupper that would stop the water coming in?

ended up making a well with a bilge pump, put some mesh over the top to stop sinkers and hooks falling into the well, that kept the water off your boots

Who wears boots in a boat???
If it is a choice between self draining when a big wave comes over the side, and wet feet, I think I will take the wet feet.

Surely if the scuppers are closed not too much water would enter, enough for the bilge pump to cope with.If you do get swamped sureley its a matter of powering away and opening them to drain the deck, asuming you are still mobile???
Im NEW to this boat business.Done a fair bit of decky work, only 3 trips as a boat owner/skipper.
Ben,my Bro is making me a triangle shaped cupboard to sit below the deck in front of the passengers chair, will be able to fit a VHF and Jukebox into it,plus mount the Epirb and fire extinguisher to it.It will have a door on it so I can keep flares in there.
Are you going to the Mandurah Boat Show???
Im going,Friday probably as its my RDO.

I wear boots. In winter it is too cold not to and with hooks, sharp things and things that bite even in summer it is a good idea. I tend to cover up if I am going to be out in the sun all day and that includes my feet otherwise I'll turn red like a lobster.
Big waves don't just come in over the side. If they do you probably should not be out. We did not have to run in and out over a bar so the bulk of the water comes in when you are under way from spray (a bit more than a fine spray) that gets blown in otherwise it is when not under power.
When we had the scuppers let the water in was when you are sitting on a drift with lines over the side and the back end of the boat is sitting lower in the water. The floor on small boats is not that far above the water line to allow an open scupper/self draining deck to work well. We had the spring loaded door type. Opinions differ as evident in this as well as other discussions on boat forums (http://www.ausfish.com.au/vforum/archive/index.php/t-168717.html). If you do have a lot of water in the boat like Andy said if you can get the boat going that will raise the boat or at least steady it so the it creates a depression behind the boat for water to go out the bungs or scuppers if you do have them. Otherwise it is a case of letting the pumps take care of it or use bailing buckets.
Our scuppers are still there, they are just closed over and have sealant on the rubber seal. For most of the time having a well allows the water to concentrate in one spot for the bilge pump to pick it up and keeps the deck free of slop.

All looking good Ben.
What MIG did you pick up?
Those gauges are the older style as opposed to CANBUS. Will be interesting to see how you wire them?
Did they give you a rigging guide? The efi60 is prewired for the CANBUS gauges and you would have to hack the harness to use the older style gauges, I assume the new 70 has the plugs for both now?
Water trap will be fine. I change my external filter every 50 hrs and the onboard filter/water alarm filter every 100. The 60 has nearly a 1litre VST capacity before the injector rail. You will be pretty sick of the water alarm before a litre of water fills the VST and buggers the injectors!
With regards to scuppers, i wouldnt have an open dory without a draining deck. The day you shouldnt be out is the exact reason you NEED to shed water fast. Also the amount of water you bring in diving, means you will never have a dry boat anyway! The best scuppers i have found are the same design used by surf boats. Hot gluein two 50mm tubes about 100mm out the back of the transom level with you floor. Drill a 50mm hole for em first. Now make up a pair of long shoots about 300mm long out of vinyl, sew along the long edges so they are a flat tube. Cable tie one end around the al tube, internal water pressure will force the tube open but minimal water will come in even if the tubes are below water level. Ill flick photoes when i get home next week.
Your use of fixed foam sheets will work well, i look forward to the pictures!

CIG Transmig 215se. There was one going cheap locally that has done about 0.5 hrs work in its life.
Ah, OK. I am not sure if the dealer was familiar with the CANBUS gauges - he didn't know the term, and he said they are the ones they sell with all non-tiller outboards. They have fitted the power loom for the gauges. There is a 4-pin plug inside the motor housing that I need to connect up to. Will post pics.
I take it you are talking about the "duckbill"-type scuppers? Diagrams are always good!

Thankfully I will still be able to hunt them on the South Coast.

duckbill sounds like an apprpriate term for the idea. Zodiak wanted nearly a zillion bucks for a pair of their rubber shoots, so i stitched some up out of vinyl. Still going strong 5 ish years later.
With the gauges, lokks like the mob have hacked into the harness for you! Saves the stress! The gauges will be easy plug and play sounds good, just means you dont have the option for efi fuel flow / distance to empty etc etc.
Will email you when i get back.

Not much progress to speak of - been too busy at work - weekends included!
I did swap the MIG over to ally - to do some welding for work unfortunately - and I am amazed how nicely it welds. Much better than the Kemppi I have used for alloy welding in the past. I suppose it helps that this beast is practically new.
I did buy some 5083 for an anchor well etc when I was buying stuff for work...
Does anyone have any pics of seat (pedestal?) mounting plates welded into an alloy boat?

I had 4 plates welded in and then bolted 4 pedestals bases down,,
The idea was with only 2 on board, there was movable seating depending on the sun.
12 months later had to weld the bases onto the plates due to movement and immenant failure,,:(

Progress has been annoyingly slow, mainly due to work and work travel, but also because I have been adding extra welds to the hull where I thought they were lacking.
Don't get me wrong, I think Blue-fin hulls are extremely well built and great value, however they do cut a few corners here and there - but only on the fittings/extras - not the main structural components.
Cutout for Anchor Well:
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2011/11/8.jpg
Flotation foam etc.... Only ~0.55 m3 standard. Seems a bit low! Need to do some buoyancy calcs... Extra ribs/stringers welded in - to support floor and allow me to make it semi-sealed.
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2011/11/9.jpg
0.3 m3 of Microlen foam for the Gunwales.
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2011/11/10.jpg
Need to make sure the centre of Buoyancy is higher than the centre of gravity! (I prefer to sit inside a swamped boat rather than on top...)
63L underfloor fuel tank:

Got the boat back together enough to do a few runs up/down the river with friends while they were over visiting. Very impressed with the handling and cornering.
Also calculated that the standard foam is only Just enough to keep the hull+motor afloat (in freshwater) - no passengers or gear :o
Also bought an Air riveter! Which will make short work of most of the fitting out hopefully!
