How do a i remove steering wheel - 95 deefer

As the title states, im trying to work out how to remove the steering wheel so i can replace my indicator switch. I had a quick look at rave earlier, but either it wasnt obviouse or im a dumbass :)

Going back to rave now, but maybe, just maybe someone on here may beat me to it.

I'm guessing tha the Deefer is similar to the D2 in this. There are 2 screws (can't remember if they're Torx or phillips head) that you access through the back of the steering wheel. This will release the airbag cover.

BEFORE YOU DISCONNECT THE AIRBAG, YOU NEED TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS!!! This ensures there is no residual power left in the circuit which could trigger the airbag. I kept my head out of the way whilst removing the bag just in case:eek:

Disconnect the airbag and remove.

You then simply undo the nut holding the steering wheel on and jiggle it until it comes off. The indicator lever/light switch will then slide off. Obviosly detach the wiring plugs as you go.

Not that hard really:)

Pry the Land Rover decal out with a screwdriver. Undo nut until it's loose but not off.

Spray some WD40 or diesel onto splines.

Swear, scream, bash, pull, wrench, pound and pry for a few hours.

Give up and leave it overnight.

Come back fresh in the morning and repeat above.

When the steering wheel suddenly and finally comes off be glad you left the nut on.

You could also try a steering wheel puller, but they're just as likely to add to the frustration as to aid removal.

Okay, so im guessing i was holding my mouth the right way forst go as it all came off easy! New switch is in, put the old wiper and headlight switch in...and....it still doesnt work! Not to worry, switch needed to be replaced anyway as it was sloppy.

Im guessing i have a relay out...I can get high beam when i pull back on the stalk, but not when i push it forward. Indicators dont work either. I started playing with the hazard switch and it only works when i push it on HARD.

Im hitting rave cd now, but if anyone has any hints that would be awesome!

the best way to remove a steering wheel if you dont want to use a puller is.....
as simon said...LOOSEN the nut but DO NOT remove it fully.......or you will end up with a similar halo to princess di........

grab the wheel on the left and right.....with the seat back a bit.....pull on it as hard as you can till you basically lift yourself off the seat.....
and wiggle the wheel left and right at the same time.....within seconds it will pop off....



TIP.....before removing the wheel.....make sure it is dead centre......so when you put it back on again it will pointing straight......
