HI GUYS
Does any one no what the Liters per 100 for a stock 110 Defender TD5 is ?
The TD5 has been chiped and running stock tyres .
I am having a discussion with a another bloke who recons that a Nissan Pathfinder is more economical then a Defer ? The nissan is 15/100 but the sticker says 10/100 .
Cheers Matthew2

So many factors, so many chips, hills, weight ranges, weight of feet,...
Just say the Landy is 14/100 ;)

Matthew2,

Like any car it wholly depends on the way you drive it. Td5's aren't renowned for their fuel economy, but if you cruise at the legal speedlimit of 110kmp/h there is no reason you should get any worse than 11liters/100km unladen and running stock configurations. Obviously taking something shaped like your garden shed up over the speed limit will drop the economy significantly!

Driving style in town is even more apparent as it's got enough torque to have nice short shifts and keeping the pedal off the floor will return around the same. If you drive it like you stolen it you can easily get it as bad as 20liter/100km!

A stock td5 should normally do better than 14l/100km, but it does depend on the type of driving.
I've had between 8.5 (experiment to get max economy) and 13.5l/100km (110 on highway loaded plus 1.5t of trailer).
That said, it typically returns between 10 and 11 in general use. That's fairly lightly loaded, standard tune, without a roof rack - mainly urban and a bit of highway.

What does he say the Nissan Gets? The Nissans I have owned haven't been renowned for frugality.

My stock tuned TD5 usually did about 12.5 at high speed
I now have a Tombie chip and regularly get less than 11
Oh and it flies
The other aspect of this is the Land Rover is a 4x4 the Nissan is well a cheaply made Japanese ute

Umm. Reading the first post I got...
The nissan is 15/100 but the sticker says 10/100 .
Quarks. Good to hear but maybe I was being a little too subtle. 15/100-1=14/100. It's better ;)

Yeah, "less is more" :)
I guess I was just trying to say that your estimate was likely to be on the conservative side; and hence the Defender should be further in front in the comparison. ;)

I get 11.5-12.5 light loads on 255/85 bighorns 2002td5 110 wagon doing a lot of short runs around town/ work n home, can get under 11 on highway runs long distance.

Usually around 13 per 100kms. Does not change towing or not. Never got close to the 10s quoted by some.
Nissan 10s, bull****, more like 17-18.

My wifes defender 130 TD5 gives a constant 10lts/100km all the time, around town and in the bush. For us oldies that about 28miles/gallon.

I'm getting ~11.5/100 out of mine but it's a Tdi300.
However at work I drive a Hilux that returns roughly the same, mate has one of the new Navaras for work and comments that he can't get anywhere near the stated 10/100 from it (2.5litre model)

Pushing my 300Tdi as hard as I dare at 120kmh (that's a real 100kmh due to the speedo accuracy) I average 9.5 on a trip up to Port Macquarie (425kms). Not heavily laden. That's also taking into account the 5% inaccuracy of the odometer. Around the burbs just cruising I think it's about the same. I can't figure it Martyn.:) Thanks Tye, I always like to remember what it was in m/g.
cheers Gerald
