I've been looking at this round thing on my dash next to the ashtray since I bought my Defender a few months ago and I've realised that I have no idea what it is. Can anyone help me out here

Looks like a mounting pad for a sucker mount, GPS, video camera etc etc

I think that is where jesus normally stands, or it could have been an old hula girl hangout. But i am thinking it is probably for a suction mount, or maybe an old compass base.

i keep my jesus stored under the drivers seat. Secured to the side 0f the seatbox with some quick release clamps.

It's the Garman mount that came standard with the SVX. It was updated with a mount kit. If your vehicle is an SVX get onto the dealer for the update kit, or didn't you get the GPS with the vehicle.

Hi All

You have a early model brain aid for those people that require metal stimulation.

It's used by glancing at it, then exercising your mind by wondering about what it's purpose is.

Oh all right then HH. As said earlier, it is the gps mount. As supplied with the SVX.

If there was/is an upgrade for the GPS mount in the SVX they never let me know.

They should have, another owner on here let me know. It's a much better bit of kit, no external wires, remote speaker ect. we should have been contacted but as it is with Land Rover, they missed it.

My Defender has an identical disk in the same place, and it is for my GPS.
I have a Garmin Dakota that I use largely for cycling, but I bought a car kit for it, and has been previously answered, the disk is to attach a sucker mount.

Hi JD

Welcome aboard to the forum. Do find your way over to the introductions thread and say hello there.
Thanks for that info about the disk, I am a bit of a luddite and have given up on GPS's for the moment and the reason for that is, the installed maps that I can afford, have led me astray.

Cheers Arthur

Hi Clint87

Welcome aboard to the forum, it does look like it is a mount for a suction cup and for a GPS as JD have said and not a brain aid as I posted earlier.
Enjoy the fun with your Defender!

Cheers Arthur

Hi JD
Do find your way over to the introductions thread and say hello there.

I have now.

I bought the GPS for cycle touring, but thought I should have the option of using it in the car. My car compass broke recently, so the GPS replaced that.

Can I just confirm it is not SVX speciific GPS mount...its just a GPS mount or any mount for a section cup device I had one exactly the same for my Itouch mount.

I bet it is stuck to the dash with double sided tape....

If it was an SVX mount the double sided tape would be much much more expensive. :p

And Allan I'm disapointed in you with the if your vehicle is an SVX comment being as though your an SVX owner...three reasons firstly this car has an ash tray on the top of the dash, secondly the bonnet has no bulge and thirdly and most importantly it's WHITE!! hhahahahahahahahah :lol2: sorry that did give me a chuckle:D

Havnt had time to get on here to check your replys. Curiorisity got the better of me and I ended up getting it off with a sharp knife, from the look of it and your replys it probably is a sucker mount for a gps.
