I live in country and am looking to have some work done on my D3 in Perth, have not been that impressed with dealer options.
Does anybody have any competent D3 service and repair specialists (who are willing to explain their account), who they can recommend I talk with? Thanks Vbrab

Hi there,
You could try Rovertech in Bentley, ask for Kevin Falconbridge, he is Mr Landrover if you are looking for an alternative. Tends to be very busy so you might be wise to give him some notice to make an appointment.

Me three - Rover Tech would be top of my list. I've heard good things about Franzone (?) Motors north of the river too.

Cheers,

For a modern Landy, I'd try Franzone in East Perth, I believe a couple of the owners drive D3/4: Franzone Motors - Perth Scooter Shop & Jaguar Servicing, Land Rover Servicing (http://www.franzonemotors.com.au/default.html)
I haven't been there, but I have heard good things.

Another two reputable ones are:

Lifestyle 4x4 in Morley: Lifestyle 4WD - Experience The Difference. 4WD Accessories and Servicing (http://www.lifestyle4wd.com.au/#!/Home)

Beechboro 4x4 in Malaga: http://www.beechboro4x4.com/

Although I don't know how these two go with modern Landys, but certainly worth a try.

Just remembered somewhere up north, Whyatts in Geraldton are on here and good: http://www.whyattsautomotive.com/index.php?page=index

I have used Discovery Automotive who are north of the river and while I don't doubt their knowledge, I was not impressed with the smartarse attitude of the guy who served me. The guy who runs the place, Mr Tickle (the elder) was a nice bloke who helped me out, but I'm not sure if he does the actual work.

I had a major service done there and I also asked them to check out why the D3 was pulling to the left quite hard whilst driving. The smartarse told me it was worn control arm bushes so I organised to get them replaced locally (I live well south of the river). I also got the ball joints done at the same time (D3 has 125k) and was told that the bushes that were replaced were fine.

I won't be back to them but will try Rovertech next time, going off these comments...

Rovertech is my choice of my D3 service, have used him for years, he has reconned 2 of my RR engines and recently replaced the D3 engine.

I have used Rovertech for the last 2 services and an auto transmission flush and can't fault them. Cheaper than the dealers, only replace filters as required and you walk out of there feeling like you have got what you paid for unlike the local dealers.

Being new to owning a Land Rover I have only used Lifestyle 4WD at Morley. They helped me out of a jam when I was trying to get the D3 re-registered. They seemed very knowledgeable and very helpful. Haven't had any major work done with them yet but it is in the plan.

They are usually booked out 2 or 3 weeks in advance with mostly LR so that must say something.

Thanks for all your replies and time, I think that Rover Tec seems like most recommended/happiest referrers, will give them a try as I need a lot of work done and don't have easy option to head back to service person if the job isn't good first time. vbrab

Hmmm Rovertech!! 2 x jobs 2 x dissappointments will never use them again:mad:
Lifestyle four wheel drive in Morley are about the best I've come across unfortunately they have now developed the reputation as such and getting into see them can be a hassle as they are so busy. The head mechanic there was the original landrover training instructor on D3's in the UK before he came to Australia. I have also heard good things about Franzone but not used them myself.
Norm, apologies mate it was me that recommended discovery auto and I have never had any major issues with there work but yes Julien is certainly a smartass except early in the morning when he's usually a grumpyass:D

No sweat mate, you just said give them a try...!:D

I only had them do a service but it was a bit pricey and then they gave me the dodgy advice.

It really annoys me there is no alternative to Southern south of the river but thats life.

Like I said, I have a local mechanic I trust to do the normal mechanic type stuff and I will give Rovertech a try next time its D3 specific...

Cheers mate,

Norm

I know you are looking for a Perth service agent, but Whyatt's in Geraldton
have been very good to me over the years. they have been looking after my defender since it was new and have always been very thorough, and I always feel confident in my car after its been Serviced by them, The head technician Andrew always goes out his way to make sure its a tidy, professional job. There workshop is always full so you need to book a 1-2 weeks in advance.

Hey Norm, Given the tide of support for rovertech then I may have to consider giving them another go myself, maybe I was just unlucky on the 2 occasions I dealt with them, especially given that I'm confident that Richardk is also a man who expects high standards when it comes to his vehicle maintainence and he seems more than happy with them:angel:.
I hope all is well with the family Norm.
regards
Brian

As much as I do not like putting money into the owners pocket (bad purchasing new car experience), I travel 4,500km round trip to get mine serviced at Southern and appreciate the car to use and have never had a problem but I only talk to the South African Service Manager whos name has escaped me at this time. Returning next week. Our local s*#t service agent here in Broome needs a walk in the bush with me. Arrogant, poor quality tradesman. I dont mind the drive to get it done in Perth.

Franzone have done the last 2 services on my D3 TDV6 and been really good - knowledgable, friendly, helpful and not as $$ as the dealer. Would recommend them any day.

Just had car serviced again here, forget my recommendation. the good service manager has left. Fed some big BS last service.
Seem to go through a lot of staff at Southern. Went through 3 during purchase period as they kept leaving. They do have loan cars though and wash the car.
I will be giving Geraldton a try, can go and catch a Whiting if the winds ever die down !. Friendly town people too.

x 2. My neighbour has happily used Franzone for 7 years (2004 D2a TD5 auto) and I'm booked in for this Thursday for my just purchased sister car.

I have had a service there and they were good, left the car cleaned and no dirty mitt marks as you sometimes find. Albany people friendly, good accommodation, no agro drivers like Perth (or right lane hogs) and easy to get around. Would go back. Recommended.
