Dead Touch Screen in D4

Hi folks,

Driving back from work yesterday (Saturday) my touch screen in my D4 HSE went completely, totally, utterly dead and has remained so ever since.

I was listening to some garbage on the radio and decided to switch it to the iPod. I hit the Mode switch on the wheel twice in rapid succession and death - instant and final. No screen, no sound, zilch. When I reverse an error appears on the panel advising that there is a problem with the camera system - presumably because it can't display anything. I did have a trailer hitched up at the time but can't really see how this could have caused the problem. At the moment I've got no radio, no gps, no bluetooth, no cameras - my God how did we ever live without 'em?

I've checked the fuses (what a mongrel that is!) but they seem fine. I'm going to contact a dealer first thing but I as wondering whether any one else has experienced the same or has any clues. I don't really want to go dicking around the internals at this stage because of warranty issues.

Also I resorted to RTFM - read the #$%^ manual - for the first time. There's a lot of gumph about Alpine and such. Does anyone whether these are an Alpine unit? Makes no diff, just wondering.

Any help, advice, info appreciated.

I've had my screen shut down when connecting my iPhone on one occasion and then on another when I think I touched the iPhone connector against a metal travel mug. I reason that on both occasions I may have 'shorted' the connector with some kind of static elctricity.

In any case, the immediate reaction was a shutdown of the screen and everything associated. On the first occasion the car did not come to life until left overnight. On the second occasion a sleep for about 20min brought it back to life.

I have nothing scientific to add but suggest that the system is protecting itself from something and a reset (nex and lie down) will fix it.

It's been dead for a couple days. The bex (and the swearing) failed to bring it back.

I took the vehicle into the dealers today. Apparently the dead touch screen was caused by a software failure. They downloaded new software which immediately resolved the problem and got things working again. So if you're touch screen dies like mine, it may be a "software issue" as the dealer described it.

Umm, the only downside is that I've lost that sultry female British voice on the nav and audio - been replaced by a Yank!

I think you can get your girl back by changing the language on the opening Nav screen, the annoying one where you have to press agree every time.
