OK, need help from the wise...
So Ive recently started playing with Google Earth - Generally I find it easy to use, buy have 1 question that I cant solve myself.
When Ive created a route / track / waypoints etc on say my PC, how do I get the onto (presumably) a google server so I can open up google earth on my phone or ipad and see those same routes / tracks / waypoints?????
I know its possible, just dont know how:confused::confused:
Thanks

Hi,
you should be able to export the track as a .kml file.
This can be imported into Google Maps, OziExplorer etc,
Ozi can export it as a .gpx file (GPS exchange) and my garmin Nuvi can import that through Base Camp.
Ozi will export tracks as a .kml file, and google can open those of course.
cheers

GPSBabel (http://www.gpsbabel.org/) is a good program for converting waypoints, routes and tracks from many formats to many other formats including .kml or .kmz files which can be read by Google earth. The files stay on your computer and are overlayed over the image in google earth.
Try this one, it's a .kmz and will appear in the temp area in the left hand side bar of google earth. right click it there to change properties such as colour and width of line etc.
that'll get you started

Thanks guys, I'm familiar with gpsbabel, kml & gps etc. Exporting to a file and then importing on anothe device is fine. I guess I didn't explain very well.
Is there a way to get google earth to upload my tracks to my igoogle account so that any device I log onto in google earth will see my tracks & routes etc?
I'm sure it must be do-able, especially when many people have more than one device. It seems awfully inefficient to have to import the same info to all your devices, especially as there is an igoogle login facility.
Thx

I've used th software that comes with my Garmin (Mapsource and/or Basecamp) to upload to Google Earth/ Google Maps - it is an option that says 'Show in Google Earth'.
Does the software for manageing your GPS have a similar function?
The subscription versions of Google Earth do have the ability to communicate directly with connected GPS devices, you might want to download it and have a play.

Thanks.
Mapsource allows me to create the track / route etc and view it in google earth, but (unless Im doing it wrong) it doesnt allow you to "save" the track to your igoogle account and thus view it online on any device at a later point in time. If you view the track / route in google earth and then save to "My Places" it only appears to save it locally on the machine you are sat at.
