Hi to all. I am considering a Freelander 2 for essentially the purpose of mum's taxi service. I estimate the vehicle will travel a maximum of 20,000 kms per year. The sales person has encouraged me to consider a diesel. Interestingly about 4 months ago a friend of mine visited the same dealership and was pushed towards a petrol, which she ultimately purchased. Our car will be bought and run through a novated lease. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers.

With Freelander 2, either option will be fine.
The petrol i6 is a smoother, more powerful engine than the TD4/SD4 diesel but is thirstier. You'll probably find that the residual values are better on the TD4/SD4 though.
Either way, make sure you go for the auto rather than the manual. ;)

The diesel auto is a fantastic car and cheap on fuel. I traded a 180kw petrol car for my td4 and have not been disappointed.

I don't have a Freelander of either type but do drive a defender and a d2 diesel.
I suggest that you go to your service station and find the diesel pump, if it is one where trucks fill up there will be a greasy patch on the concrete where diesel has spilt. If you can handle the smell and the possibility of getting it on your hands then consider the diesel. You can always use gloves if the hand thing worries you.
Diesel is the way to go unless your after a race car.

I have a TD4 Freelander 2 and after 4 years still love getting behind the wheel. A really great vehicle. Can't talk about the i6 much, but I guess same car but more power and way more fuel.
