Tyre suggestions

Got the wife a Freelander 1 (2.5V6). It's currently fitted with Maxxi 751? tyres and boy are they noisy. At first I thought it had seriuos problems underneath due to the noise. Anyway I am looking to replace them with, preferably, an At type tyre. Any recommendations? It has the 15 inch wheels fitted.

Any A/T type tyre will be noisy compared to a road biased tyre.

I ran M&S type tyres originally and they drove well on road while giving pretty good dirt track performance including in fairly slippery stuff. Much quieter than the BFG A/Ts I fitted later.

If your wife isn't driving off the made roads, fit some more road biased tyres.

If I am not completely lost they came with factory-fitted Michelin rubbers. A really good choice as they are long lasting and performance is also among the better, to say the least. They're a bit costly, though, but I think they are worth it.

I like Yokohama Geolander at-s. I have set on that have done over 60,000 kms and still have reasonable tread. They have been good on all surfaces and I have given them a hiding. Even did up around Arkaroola in the Flinders, real tyre wrecking stuff up there. Not noisy but pricey. Don't get the ht version, they are crap.

How noisy?? Remember they are a-t tyres so inherently they will be a bit more noisy than road tyres. Saying that though on my previous set of tyres there was an alignment issue which caused severe vibration and noise, enough that the car felt like a massage chair on the hiway.

But back to the topic- before I purchased my current set of tyres I did quite a Ng of research. Through that I found that our (15 inch freelander) tyres sizes are very odd and rare so much that there will no doubt be a long wait-
Michellen's were estimated 1.5 months and Yokohama g12's didnt even have a estimate arrival time. So you'll most likely have to buy non standard tyres for your freelander like what I have, and incendently I bought the maxxis 751 bravo's. This was about 2 months ago and they've travelled about 3000 km's. So far very happy with them and ESP the price too at 170 per tyre. The quote for the Michellen latitude cross was quoted about 220-250 depending on place while the Yokohama g12's were 184 but no eta so couldn't go with them.

I have Maxxis P1 on my freelander. These are a road tyre though. Very quite and wearing well.
