:eek:POVERTY:eek:

I spent today working on Poverty, Poverty is an 88in WB Ser1 belonging to a mate down Gold Coast Poverty has spent a lot of time on South Stradbroke Island, but because it has a galvanized chassis and fire wall, my mate managed to get ownership of it and get it back to the mainland and in 3 weeks three of us have managed to achieve a lot towards getting it back on the road , which includes a complete brake overhaul, new wiring, all new spring bushes, water pump overhaul, radiator clean and repair ( sent out to be done) all new brake tubing and fittings. Upholstery done, front axle rebuilt including a rebuilt front diff. radiator support panel repaired, 4x second hand spring sets. 4 x second hand good tyres on 3 different coloured rims and lots of other bits and bobs. I must admit that poverty has grown on she does have some thing that I cant put into words. Dont ask what year she is as the gal has covered the chassis number and there is nothing else to tell by
There is no intention of doing a paint job, time does not allow for it so over lunch I passed a comment that it will look like something that some poor poverty stricken person would drive around in so the name Poverty was officially been given to this wonderful old landrover. Its hoped that Poverty will pass her road worthy and be on the road by the end of next week
So if you are on the Gold coast at any time and you see Poverty running around give a wave and through a hand full of coins in the tub to help towards a paint job ( Just joking)

Its a wee ripper!.

I love the name and I reckon those brake light "protector/shades" actually look good! Can you sand that pass door back to a similar colour? :)

I'd like to see a series soda blasted to clear metal and left like that... (would that last?) sort of like a very early delorean (<-- sp?)

(is the engine number likely to be genuine and therefore give us a number?, how about the "plate" inside? -would be nice to know..I know it doesnt really matter!)

Cheers keep us up to date!

AND - it's almost the correct yellow colour for the intended purpose!

Great name! It reminds me of my grandfather who worked as a fitter and turner. Whenever anything wouldn't fit as he intended, it was always "poverty" keeping it out. It seems remarkably fitting for a Series 1.

Keep the photos coming as you progress please!

We did hope to have had Poverty registered and on the road by now , but due to parts supply it will be Tuesday or Wednesday the rebuilt axles are fitted the wiring is all but finished and most thing work, brakes all work fine, carby has had a gasket kit and good clean out, tie-rods & drag link has had new ends put in them and our master mechanic ( not me I am a bush mechanic) has completed a wheel alignment on it using a length of string, radiator and support panel fitted, fuel pump overhauled and fresh oils from front to rear .
This has been a rushed project in a way reason will be disclosed later but there has been 2-3 of us working about 3 and 4 days a week for the last 4 weeks to get it to this stage

Looks like it should be a very nice Series 1 - but somehow I don't think that is the original engine! Should go well though - a 2.25 with the light bodywork of a Series 1 ....

This is the older brother to Poverty this project is NOT being rushed , and when finished will be all Landrover, no foreign bits, only stainless steel and a little chrome will help the appearance. Oh and the tail lights

Watch for up dates

Thanks for the pictures that is a fantastic thing you are doing, and is what land rovers are all about I guess, when others have failed to see the usefulness of a Land Rover and it is binned just because it's old and tired.
It just takes a bunch of like minded people like yourselves to make it live again.
Sure it hasn't the wow of a modern flush cockpit of the latest brands, but it has simplicity and serviceability and that has stood it in good stead since it's date of manufacture.
good onya guys keep up the good work.
Regards Andy.

After 15 yrs and that time spent on South Stradbroke Island, pulling fishing boats and recovering other vehicles from all over the Island, a real work horse according to it previous owner. Poverty is on the road again with full registration It has take nearly 5 weeks to do a rushed rebuild while Cooee, Poverty garage mate had some work done on it.
Both John and I took poverty for a drive around the Surfer's Paradise this morning and its a real Chick magnet

I think it would look good in an iridescent Blue

Or take it back to bare alloy with a clear coat :)
