During our travels, it's been great to meet up with a few members, and I'd love to catch up with some more. However, I'm sure I'm missing out on heaps of members simply because I'm not sure where they are.

So, is it feasible to setup Google Map or similar with everybody's locations? Obviously not exact address, but at least town?

Not sure if this has been done, if so, got a link?

BTW, if anyone cares to catch up, they can find out where I am (approximately) by checking www.ryangus.com - would love to hear from you and perhaps drop in or meet up somewhere.

IIRC, this has been setup allready. Hopefully someone can find the link to it.

Aulroians (http://www.zeemaps.com/edit/kYrtSUeAXAzHTQ8n_CtPbQ)

there is a thread about it, search aulroians maybe, the different colour tags mean different things, like overnight stay and recovery help etc.

cheers

When / if you join Defender2.uk, they get you to place your town ad type of landy on a map of the world.

For interest you can bring up that map and view all of the members locations, a small picture of their model of vehicle right across the globe.

Cheers

Bloody good idea, so if you are stuck somewhere and require assistance a quick check of the map will show a local AULRO member who can help.

it was poohooed big time when i tried to implement/ intergrate it last time as it might make it easier for those with a bad agenda...

Well I seem to be able to stuff up even the most simple things. I entered the Suburb, Town, State, and Postcode and it put me near Newcastle. Looks like I'll have to go for a drive to pick up my marker and bring it home.

Thats why the marker's location is only an approximation for mine.
Use a local park, shopping centre or some other public area and anyone with a bad agenda will still have a fair bit of work to do.
Not so easy for those out in the sticks with nothing around though!

could you operate it like "facebook" where you can announce where you are at any given time eg - at toolangi firestation or mcdonalds berwick so you can do it when your out n about.

I agree with you both. I would only need an approximate location (you could even choose a different, but nearby, town) to work out whether a visit is possible.

We need a AULRO version of the Grindr App. (Used by gay men cruising for other gay men).

Load the app into your iPhone and it will tell you all the AULROvians nearby. That way you're not restricted to the home location of AULROians.

Of course we will have to modify it to link to our GPS, OziExplorer and the VKS737.net because iPhones don't work on the Simpson and CSR!

(not that I have an iPhone either)

I'm just surprised this thread hasn't been merged with the original thread yet...

Not quite correct from what I've read recently Diana.

According to an article on the ExploreOz website there is now a device (costing about $300) that can link your smart phone to the GPS network for emergency signals plus short emails and SMS messaging.

No time to find the link at present as I'm about to go out.

Hey, I refuse to 'Facebook' or let SWMBO register there either.

Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get me :D
