Just wondering if anyone has a dead or spare transfer case they would be willing to lend? I need something to help with maching the adaptor I'm making for 4L60e, it will be unharmed and returned with some cash/beer :)

Hi Matt, I have one here in the workshop - belongs to Andrew. He is away all week, in country NSW with his real job. He said no probs for a loan, just have to work out freight, unless someone closer to you has one.

Will send a PM

Erich

Any progress on the t/case adapter for the 4l60 ??
As my motor has just died at 400k  & I'm keen
on an ls1 conversion. The rovers as we know cost a fair
bit to rebuild with not much gain..

Go on now boys get into it!!! Am finishing something else P38 today but can't resist when I hear of this...

Actually, if you really think its do-able I would love to be involved on a financial basis for a share of the ongoings!!!

Now that's a bit tongue in cheek, but seriously these P38 V8's go "POP" that often that anyone who develops a reliable and reasonably priced LS"X" (please don't limit it to LS1 alone!) conversion kit will probably make a fairly decent ROI.

I need someone to donate time not money:D

The ls range will be catered for, it's merely a few loom mods between them, it's very achievable, I just need the time to do it, I've got a few ls conversions I need to sort first, a bluebird with sr20 rebody to finish, then on to the p38, but I'm working 7 days sparkying so it's hard to fit them in:D

Well, I can probably even help out there a bit... am a handy DIY'er, but no mechanic. When you get free'd up for it, let me know and I can pull a few days to help out.

If you want, I need to finish this ls1 I'm doing now, its a rover car, as its longer than I should of taken, working 12hr shifts every single day for the past few weeks, doesn't help, plus jobs after those shifts:D

Once that's done I need to source an engine and transmission, strip the one out of the rangie, draw up the adaptor, have it machined, send of the 4.6 engine loom as the plug is need to have the loom made

If someone is serious about helping, I'm more than happy to work something out as I really want this to come to fruition, I think they are the next classic and if they can be made to actually have some horsepower AND be reliable, they'll become a great bush hack

I have no doubt this can be done completely its just more complex integrating the vehicle than most, I have done heaps of engine conversions, but having the A/C work as it should, no fault codes, full diagnostic ability etc.

I'm interested in how the "LT1" Mod was achieved in the Range Rover that was for sale on Ebay a while back.

Did anyone happen to investigate that further?

Yes, it was never completely right, had book symbol on hevac and auto fault on message centre, I spoke with both the dude at turbosomething or other and triumph rover spares who both had a hand in the conversion

Ok... Glad someone went to the effort of finding out ;)

So again coming from a lack of complete Mechanical Knowledge... what's the difference between a 4.6 Rover V8 and 5.7L GM LSX in terms of sensors etc...

What's stopping us from modifying the voltages/signals into something acceptable by the original BECM?

Because it's a rubbish way to do it I think, the ability to drive into any gmh dealer or ls tuner and have your rangie diagnosed is worth it alone, far more advanced ecu, commonality of parts of the shelf, blah blah......

I have it all sorted, to do it the right way, just need to actually do it:D

Agree it needs to be done right with those bits integrated properly. Let me know what I can help with and when. I will let you know if I can do.

I do know where to get some loaner parts from! Have shares in a "wrecker" p38 with a few other guys on here.

Quite honestly, I'd be prepared to donate my 1999 4.0 "Hard Rangie" as the test mule. It already has a HP24 transmission (not the HP22), 4.1 diffs (for the 33" tyres) and a 2" lift that makes it really easy to work on from underneath ;) It also comes with a FaultMate MSV-2 that makes changing ECU settings pretty simple.

We'd just need to work out what a reasonable "paying job" price would be... and then I'd need it to get it engineered for registration in NSW.

Cheers, Paul.

Good job Paul!

Now that would be a nice set up... And definitely a Hardened Up Rangie! Who needs Overfinch or Callaway?

Now all that's missing is that elusive little bugger, Mr Time. Hey, remember that Costner movie "Field Of Dreams"? If you build it they will come. In this case it would have to refer to customers! I am still dragging the chain on a suspension bush group buy, but I would just about guarantee I could start a "P38A LS-X conversion kit" group buy right now. In fact, I will put my name down for the "beta" version right now.

Anyway, when you are ready to go, I am ready to help. Just let me know what and when.

Ok, it's getting more promising, I'm actually declining a little work now, no more engine conversion type car work and picking and choosing electrical work and who I sell solar systems too, the backlog is slowly freeing up, thanks to a few part time workers, so I think I'll have this happening in a month or two, good winter job

The question is, how many people will be willing to part with there dough once I have it sorted:D

I think this will get the p38 bush basher popularity up, imagine a p38 which always gets you home:angel:

I reckon that will depend on how many go pop and how the pricing stacks up against the other alternatives.

Sounds like PaulP38 has put up your first job (wasn't it when a fair $ figure can be agreed?), and I have started driving mine like it doesn't need to live forever (whilst still thinking about how much I can get by on selling my 8,000km's fresh 4.6). So I guess there's one ready and one on the way!

If the $'s stack up for a base LS with a chunk more power for around a grand cheaper than a 4.6 short motor fitted then its a no brainer. That would mean it would be well cheaper than a top hatted version. And god knows what that sort of budget would deliver in higher spec LS's.

**** the cogs are starting to churn...

It's made it into the shed! But of to kakadu etc tomorrow, all other car jobs are done aside from one....ls7 into triumph...so depending on a possible heap of works installing solar, over and above what I sell and install myself it could possibly start early next month:) if this work comes through I'll be 8 days a week till the end of june:( I'll have lots of money though:)
