hey guys,
Just thought I would ask the question, we know you love your Landrover, you wouldn't be here right if you didn't, however do you use your custom landrover to tow or move your other toys.
What are they?
Dirt bikes, racing cars, jet skies, kayakes, go carts, oh the list goes on.....
would love to see some pics of your 4WD and your toys (big boy style) so post some pics here and lets see what you all love to do

without sounding rude but if your mag needs more content and your requesting in here for said content do you not think you should be subscribed as a vendor and give something back to the site?. :)
otherwise would think your own forum should have enough members to get this info surely? :)

We recently had a thread about the lack of Land Rover representation in the local off road mags. We are being invited to increase that representation and if we aren't prepared to take up the offer, there would be no justification for complaining in the future.
I personally don’t currently have any “boy’s toys” to show off, but surely you boat owners, jet ski owners, dirt bike owners etc out there have enough pride in both your Land Rover and your toys to send the man a pm?

your right, but if you read through that thread people who had agreed to have piccies taken and got nix for taking time out for doing so, while the mag reaps the rewards. i have never seen a reference to aulro.com in any of the write ups of member cars, even those they found through the forum.
all i am saying is i think someone like this making such requests would be a whole lot better respected if giving support this forum, i see that no different to any other vendor on here.

-a couple of D-series yamaha dirt bikes (no pics sorry)

We made custom racks to take our bikes to the desert. They were made in a way that you could drive offroad with the bike on the back, just in case we needed to recover a bike.......the injured rider could be thrown in the back of the County :D

Oh FFS Get Over It !!!!!
I have seen reference to AULRO on at least one occasion in the mag (can't remember which edition - it was a while back), and I'm pretty sure I've seen / heard AULRO mentioned on one of the DVD's as well.
A hell of a lot of the other vehicles featured in the mag / on DVD's belong to members of Toyota / Nissan / Mitsubishi forums as well - don't see / hear anyone having a cry that those forums don't get a lot of mention in the mag.
I met Roothy and had a couple of cold ones with him a couple of years ago when he was in Tassie. While he loves to have a dig at Landrovers (because he knows he will always get a bite), he also has a healthy respect for them and has owned at least one in his time - and he is certainly very aware of AULRO. His words to me - "one of the best forums there is".
I couldn't agree with him more. :D

I've got a couple of photos of my Disco snatching my young bloke's work 79 series Cruiser AND a little Mazda bubble car out of a salt lake in a single pull.
But I'd better not post them up. The business whose name is painted all over the side of the cruiser might not see the funny side .............

Like that's going to happen.
A few of us went to Stockton Beach for a photo shoot for a 4WD mag recovery article. A wide range of makes & models present. Of course the tricked up Toyota was the hero recovery vehicle that "rescued" discowhite's D4.
I doubt the mag told the readers that the D4 could not bog itself, & they had to dig 4 holes in the sand & then drive it in.:whistling:
Or that the Toyota had to work very hard to recover the hardly stuck Land Rover.
Sorry if I sound jaded, but there were opportunities to photograph Toyotas & Nissans genuinely bogged, but they chose to do a set up instead.

My Big Boy toys!! The road pushbike is my latest obsession, and I ride it 50 - 60k a day round trip to and from work. Have lost 5 kilo's in the last month (with about that much still to loose) Just getting in shape for this ski season, especially since last year my elbow was in a cast for much of it.

Hey mate I'll post some pics soon, it's an xt falcon 378 clevo with all the good gear 12.5:1 comp, solid roller, lunatti crank, carillo rods, arias pistons, built c10 with 5 grand stall.
Set it up for a few different looks totally stock with granny visor, venetians and steelies or pull that off swap bonnets and put the 18s and 20s on remove the visor with a k&n through the bonnet.
It's currently 600ks away waiting for me to be able to get there so we can tune it, then send it off for trim, after two years I'm getting anxious to actually drive it other than onto a trailer.

would apologise for embarassing you but wont because i dont give a stuff.
i am just sticking up for this site, we have a number of valuable sponsors on this site paying good money to show thier name/company.
we have express media on this site asking for contributors to benefit their sales so i see no reason why they should not be vendors.
and fyi i have been a subscriber to the mag for the past 7-8yrs so i am aware of what has and has not been covered in that time, this i have just let lapse as i feel the mag is lacking in its quality both editorial and covered content.:(

I actually agree with everything you have said, A while ago they asked to do a feature on my old Jeep. Whilst flattered i couldnt do it as i felt the quality of the writing and fact checking is generally of a very poor standard, to the point i have two friends who had articles done extremely embarressed by the crap that was written.
The whole mag is a paid advertisement
Good luck to anyone who wants a feature done

I'm concerned about the advertising on the side of the vehicle and the location therefore it will not be shown on a public domain.

Oh seriously? Some people need to build a bridge and stop being such girly-man's. I have been in many articles in print media, on Current Affairs shows and the National news yet I don't reckon I have ever seen a complete article/feature that was correct as I had said in the interview. There is always mistakes and its just part of the media and also some journalistic license gets applied too.
As for the theory that what "they" print is embarrassing or wrong, if there's one thing I've learn't about the users on this forum is that EVERYONE has their own opinion. FULL STOP! and regardless of anything else everyone's personal opinion is always the most informed based on the most experience, the most years in the business and also is always based on "fact", and from this I have learn't that everyone always knows best...But just maybe in the case you refer to, the journalist thought they knew best? How dare a journo disagree with the "Facts" as defined by Rover lovers! MY GOODNESS WHAT A CARDINAL SIN! However, maybe when the journo published supposedly wrong information, again, it might of been an issue of journalistic license? If they paid for the photos/story, then isnt it their property and they can write/say whatever they want because they own it?
As for the claim that if we supply photos, "they" will only use it sell more magazines and fill their coffers, well SORRY it must have really taken time and effort to upload a photo! I mean maybe the magazine should pay you at a minute by minute rate, wait...with NBN it would only be second by second, for your privileged time when you uploaded a photo! Any as they own the photo now, cos they paid you for it, do you now have to refer all future comment and compliments to the magazine who own the product?
I think, quit your jibber-jabber, and politics, and if you want to show off your rover, then show it off, if not, then go jibber-jabber somewhere else! Honestly, some people never have a nice or encouraging thing to say.
I think 4WD Action is a great magazine, and I have subscribed to all of them at various times, and surprise surprise, I'm never going to agree with all that's published by them, or Pat Callinan, or Len Beadell or Mike Leyland for that matter! Not ANYONE! Im never going to agree with the amount of ads, or the layout, or the "facts", but I wonder why??? I DONT OWN IT!!! And last I looked, neither do any AULROians, so lets enjoy the mag for what we like, or buy a different one and.....forget the jibber-jabber!
Someone upload another pic of their rover and big boys toys PLEASE!
roverfan
28th October 2011, 04:43 PM
There's a big difference between jounalistic license and not having a clue what you are writing about, and I Think most real journalists would be disgusted to hear 4wd action writers described as such.

Some of you guys are a pretty miserable lot.
First of all complaining there is no Land Rover content in the mag, then complaining when they ask us to post a pic of our Land Rover's on the forum.
I've seen a few articles of late featuring Land Rovers and think they get a fairly good showing bye 4WD Action.
The latest issue, which arrived yesterday, has a Defender on the cover and three stories involving Land Rovers.
I've had a subscription for 10 years now and still find it a good read along with an enjoyable, good quality DVD thrown in for nothing.
Every time I subscribe, I always get something extra for not much more cost, e.g. Torches, Leatherman, Camp beds etc. Often these items are worth almost as much as the subscription. So I don't mind a few ads that obviously subsidises the bonuses I get.
Some of the Camper Trailer manufacturers offer a great discount for 4WD Action readers.
Must say, this great country of ours is becoming a country of whingers.

Has 202, tripple webbers, supra 5 speed, A9X LSD/disc brake rear etc.
Not enough suspension travel (and too weak in the front end) to be competitive at the pointy end of the field , but can hold its own on the wide open fast sections. A heap of fun in the dirt!!!

Well I fail to see how this magazine has the nerve to come on to this forum and ask for pictures to help them sell their mag without paying for coming on this site.
In my case I do pay to advertise on this site but I also made the mistake of running an ad in one of their mags for 12 months and got done a beauty.
I ran a small ad in their mag promoting my isolators.
As an incentive to advertise with them, as part of the 12 month campaign I was promised a featured article.
NEVER HAPPENED.
But to make matters worse, halfway through my 12 months of ads, they run a feature guide about isolators.
Guess what, I read through the guide and my isolators don’t even get a mention while other brands of isolators, NOT advertised in their mag get a mention.
As it turned out, by the time I finished reading their “GUIDE” I was ever so glad my gear was not mention.
The “GUIDE” was nothing more than a grossly misleading promotional article for their big time advertisers.
And just to add insult to injury, the month after my last ad ran, someone from their mag rings me and told me they were to get info about a featured article.
I told them my ads had now finished, and this clown tells me I could run another 12 month ad campaign to go with the featured article.
I’m not allowed to post up what I replied to this clown, but you can imagine.
Again, I think they have a hide coming on this site to help them sell the mag without paying to advertise here first.

I prepared a (non 4wd) car for someone and they were offered a spread in a part time ricer mag (of the same publisher) and it was talked over with the owner of the car and I agreed but had a doc drawn up to prevent them from publishing anything that wasn't vetoed by myself and signed off. I provided a list of all the parts used and a write up of everything done and who as outside contractors I used.
The first draft of the article came through and not only was not one supplier mentioned but their advertisers who were in the mag's names were substituted, same for other service providers. I took to it with a big red marker and corrected it all. Came back, reedited back to original.
Ended up playing letter ping-pong until I got jack of it and went to the suppliers etc and had a doc made up preventing them from publishing any pics of stories of it at all delivered by one of their lawyers. Then they still sent a mock up through 15 months later wanting approval to publish.

The Mag only seems interested in late model vehicles anyway.
We ran into a guy from the mag at Zig Zag a few weeks ago.
He introduced himself and said to Brendan than the mag would like to do a feature on his 130 Puma on Portals. Now this is a beautiful truck, and deserving of a feature somewhere,Brendan said he wasn't interested, but that he should look at my truck,as it has lots of good bits and pieces fitted. The guy from the mag, didn't even acknowledge the comment and walked away without another word.Guess they have seen too many white Defenders:cool:
