I have been keeping one thread going in relation to deaths of our soldiers on duty, this thread has not become controversial and by keeping it going everytime another death occurs I hope that people take some time to look back over some of those others lost.

the thread:
http://www.aulro.com/afvb/general-chat/129409-stand-silent-minute-another-brave-soldier-lost.html

After these last tragic three deaths I again updated the thread and my post was moved to another thread (not where I intended it at all, but same topic)- this doesnt continue the tribute I was trying to achieve - so realising that a copy had been moved to another thread (I realise, most likely by a well meaning mod), I placed a copy back in the above thread.

I find today that this post has been removed again and the thread closed!!:o

No notice or reason was given, I realise that there needs to be some thread management but this is I thought an unoffensive thread and in fact a tribute
to those lost. There has been no arguements on this thread nor disparaging remarks, it has been continued by everyone in the theme intended.

Can the thread be reopened please to continue in its intended purpose? I am not trying to stir up trouble, but as I was unsure who to contact I believe this is likely the best way to contact whomever made/makes the decision.

I would love the thread to be closed at the end of our involvement in the conflict-

I hope it can be unlocked/opened, if not I would propose starting a continuation thread(same name but number 2) although I would prefer not to do this. Would this be a problem for some reason?

Once this is sorted this thread could be deleted.

Cheers

I closed it. I thought you were inadvertently placing the posts in there - after all, the posts you added referred to the latest deaths in Afghanistan.

I'd actually like to move the arguments from the new thread to an area of their own and to leave the thread to refer only to the latest casualties.

Thanks for the quick reply Ron.

I agree that the arguements are more soapbox stuff and take away from the
fact that we should mourn those lost. It shows the passion on both sides of the arguement.. I don't envy your job as a Mod trying to deceide where the line is that moves a topic to soapbox or not!

As for the thread I have updated it every time more deaths/casualties of serious nature occurs. Maybe the name doesnt reflect the purpose of the thread but was done to indicate the intention of the thread- and as said most have been very good with it.

Thanks for the reply! Can the thread be unlocked or should I start a 'continuation"?

Digger, we try to avoid having multiple threads on the same subject which was another reason for moving your posts.

Perhaps we could consider merging the two threads with a change of title?

Having said that, does merging them take something away from each? Each is awful in its own right. I'd hate to dilute a thread by making it generic. I hope you see what I mean - I'm having trouble explaining it. If we were talking and responding it would be much easier.

In my view, a thread mourning the loss of the soldiers shouldn't be a soapbox to argue over whether Australia should be there or not.

Re the arguments, I might raise the subject in the Mods area (as there have already been reports made to us about that thread) and get an opinion on pruning it.

If you wish to discuss it over the phone, PM your no. to me and I'll call you.

OK,

On the "multiple threads" idea I thought this also assisted in preventing that?,and there isnt any arguement in that thread. As said I don't envy your job as a Mod, so I will clam up now :)

I shall abide by the umps decision! and wont start a continuation.

Thanks again..
(ps thanks for the offer but I wont bother you over the phone, cheers)

yep,but am i????

I just didnt see it as something worthy of phone calls 1/2 way across the nation, my question was answered and so all is good. As I indicated (as this goal of being informed was achieved) this thread could even be deleted with no loss at all. I figure you guys are busy anyway keeping us all in line!

(now about that previous infraction, how do I get that deleted from my record??:o:angel: --(just kidding!) :wasntme:)

But thanks for the offer of the call anyway! :D
