Bought a freelander from the dealer with a towbar package and told them looking at towing an Avan - tare weight of 940kg.

Picked up the van, little nose down on the trailer and then they said easy flip the towbar around .

Looked at the clearances and realised that it was not enough - sooner or later the screw adjuster on the caravan coupler was going to take out the bumper bar.

Have now discovered that the Reese hitch is a 40mm section. Can you get slightly longer hitch assemblies for these? Did they sell me the wrong towbar in the first place as the power cable connection through the plug is also possibly too light to run the fridge?

There is an old thread about this; see if this link works.

Well at least that the story he told me - rangthem and explained I had a LR 40mm square towbar insert but needed it about 50mm longer to allow clearance and he said no problems! $120 , 2 day turnaround . Now I have the nashing of teeth to see if go 50mm or 70mm longer bar - thankfully I am towing only a 1 tonne van so the load drop will not affect me.
