Interesting vehicle ( I will add a couple more shots when I can!)
came up at a clearing sale, runs (roughly!) brakes are shot (its a landy after all!) It is a lighter grey colour than normal

its a deceased clearing sale, so no info on it or how it was obtained..

Some "wiser than me" people came up and had a look (and bid on it) and we have a theory.... what do you guys come up with?

the back.. (note professional NATO plug hole!)

The headlamp rims and the warner plug fittings make it an ex-UK MoD vehicle. Whether it is Royal Navy (colour) or British Army will be deciphered by the contract number.

This is a question for REMLR's sister organisation in the UK EMLRA.

This is most likely an ex Uk mil vehicle that was brought out for use when the Brits were doing bomb and missile testing out here. Was cheaper to leave them here than taking them back.

I am told its an RN contract number.

its a '57, home delivery and yes the nato plug, headlights, vent grills, stencilling all indicate military to back it up.

how it got where it is, no one knows and the owner is now deceased.

Sold for $1200 (doesnt have original motor in it) runs (has sticky exhaust valve?) and had no rust that I could see. Had full straight hood stick set, both door tops and windows (milky) original jack in the tool box and the canopy was found rolled up in a 44 in the shed (rough but mainly ok!)

Was still being used as a farm vehicle (had 80 star droppers in the back when I saw it first!!) Sadly it seems the buyer wants to continue using it as a farm vehicle (we assume doesnt know its history)

two other motors were for sale there, one possibly the original the other a later motor (both I assume siezed)

.... except that its a UK MoD standard "Warner" plug that pre-dates the NATO standard 12 pin.

but, my point is it had a plug!:p:p And I had a plug for Mr Warner ;)

The Aussies used the Warner plugs until the early 1960s, I've even seen a Warner plug on a command recon (also had the 12 pin NATO)! The main place you'll see them are on the back of the Austin Champs, but they were on lots of pieces of equipment.

At the SME museum, we have a number of bridging pontoon trailers and the Warner plugs are on both ends, so they must have had double ended cables to connect them up.

do you have a photo of the plug?...
what is the threaded large bit alongside? is that to screw something onto that holds the plug stopping it from being pulled out?

It's OK Digger, the info about Warner plugs is very relevant to UK military S1s and after all, whom are they going to complain about it to?

:D:angel:

I will try to contact the buyer, if its for a farm vehicle a LWB S3 may be more attractive to them?? so may try for a trade?

time will tell...

It would be a shame for such a unique vehicle to end up as a farm truck. Although that said, farm Landys is why we still have a great stock of vehicles to restore.
