headlights on series

hi there i am usually lurking on the disco one forum, I am looking for a series landy, my question is when did the headlights go from inboard to outboard on the fenders, was it 2/2A? I really like the inboard look but have seen both 2 and 2A advertised with inboard and outboard headlights.
can someone please clarify this for me.

Late 2a is when they went to wide headlights, 1970 by memory.
The cross-eyed look was a factor in the purchase of my 2a too :)

In Australia, Suffix G, around 1970.

In NSW Suffix "G" started being delivered in September 1969, but most seem to have arrived in November 1969.

Wasn't it only for the Australian and Canadian markets that the headlights were fitted into the wings in Series 2A's?????

Cheers, Mick.No it was a Worldwide change. The NADA* spec vehicles got a "bug-eye" model where the headlamp buckets were fitted through the front of the "fenders" from about 1967-68 onto Suffix G.

I had a 1968 2A and my Dad had a 1971 2A, the first of which had the inboard headlights and the last had the lights in the guards - which is consistent with the earlier advice as to when the position changed and why.

Like most new things, I didn't like the "new look" at the time of the change and thought it was a shame to lose one of the signature features of the breed.

However, to be honest the light spread from the old position was not terrific at night - especially when our two farms were separated by a narrow and twisting cutting with a near-sheer drop off. The peripheral vision afforded by the lights due to the position not just on the grille, but also set in behind the guard front edges was terrible, compared to the later models.

That was just a personal reflection and many would probably disagree or be indifferent as long as they were working, which isn't always the case.....
