View Full Version : Prawns into Perth

Gday All,

Sorry for the delay,
We have tried to keep our prices low, but the export market for tiger prawns and the real bad catches have forced the price of the Large tigers up abit.

I am offering the tigers at cost price, but have a very limited amount, so I may have to stop offering them once I sell what I have.
The only increase from last year is the large tigers in the 3kg box all other prices are the same.

The product will go to the Toll transport depot, in Kewdale

I need a minimum order of 8x9kg cartons and sent as 1 consignment for this to work..

Tiger Prawns...
Under 8 (8 or less per pound)..1.5kg box =$43 our premium prawn & our largest by far..

10/15...(10/15 per pound).....3kg box =$63. A noticable size difference to the u/8 but still a good prawn size

Endeavour Prawns..These are direct competition to king & Banana prawns
Under 15...(15 or less per pound)...3kg box =$53

15/25...(15/25 prawns per pound)....3kg box =$43 This is a good medium size prawn..

Please compare my prices to your local supplier, and when you compare prawn prices make sure you compare the size grade's (count per pound) as this is standard across all prawn industry's..

I would be looking at sending these to perth by the end of the 1st week of December.

Cheers Ean

Gday All,

We are tossing up the idea of offering some of our by-catch, mainly Morton bay bugs..

This is going to require alot of help at your end as we have to keep these whole due to a size limit that is measured across the head.We pack them in 1kg bags, and because of this a master carton only holds about 6-7kgs.

I would need to send all the bugs together and you would need to seperate the order at your end.If I tried to seperate the bugs into orders like the prawns, the freight cost would kill the idea due to the amount of boxes I would need to send.

If this could work I would look at charging $21 kilo.

Think about it, so check what you pay locally and let me have some idea if you think it could work.

Cheers Ean

Thanks Ean!

Your product tastes so great we would be happy to buy it even if it costs more than the local stuff of unknown origin!

We will definitely be in for at least 18kg of prawns and 7 kg of bugs. Will ask around and can probably get more.

Any other By-catch available?
I see Andy has put his hand up, but I am also happy to help sort the order at this end.

EDIT - to get in while they last:

EDIT 2 - order amended - (Plus) more to come over the next day or 2

We will take:
7x3 kg (21kg) of 10/15 Tigers
2x1.5 kg (3kg) of U8 Tigers
2x3 kg (6kg) of 15/25 Endeavours

Will add by-catch order and other orders later.

You would get between 9-13 per kilo, just depends on the sizes of the bugs, we have a minimum size of 60mm across the head.

Gday All,

Maybe I didn't explain myself properly with the bugs,

The way I pack the orders is to keep everyones seperate and write on the back of the outer carton who's it is and whats inside. If I have room to keep the bugs with your prawns I will,

BUT I may have to send a box of say 6x1kg bags of bugs and it may need to have 3 taken out to top up an order from 2 people.

THIS IS WHEN IT WILL HAVE TO BE DONE AT YOUR END, SAME AS I DID WITH SOME OF THE SINGLE ORDERS LAST YEAR.

I do plan on keeping every order seperate as I have in the past, I just cant send boxes down with just 1 or 2kg in them..

So feel free to order 1kg or 20kg of bugs, and I will let you know once I have packed it if there is any that need to be combined.

Any questions just ask.

Cheers Ean

Roughly how many kg of bugs would it take to fill a whole (9kg) carton Ean? We love bugs so will probably order ~10kg.

I have updated my order.

Ean - it would be a huge help to me if the order arrived by 09 Dec - As I will be very busy during the week 12-16 December (and will also have guests then who would love to eat some of your prawns). So if there aren't any objections I would be happy if you can close the order off earlier. I am happy to be the consignee - as previously. Andy usually has enough to fill a separate consignment, and any latecomers could possibly be added to his order?

I have recently changed jobs and we have LOTS of freezer space here - so would be able to store orders short term for anyone who isn't able to make the pickup from TOLL.

Gday Andrew,

I will check your order, but the box marked EMPTY was put in by me to stop movement whilst being transported.I was worried that with only 2 boxes in that master carton they may be able to move during the trip.

Ean - the bugs are FANTASTIC!!! Several people over Xmas commented that they can't understand why the bugs are by-catch - they taste better than the prawns!

Over xmas/ny we got through about: 8kg of prawns, 5kg of bugs, 8kg of abalone (both wild caught (us) and farmed) and 4kg of fish!!! (EDIT: forgot to add - 2 southern rock lobster!)

The bugs are definitely worth doing again.

Gday Ben,

Its not so much they are a by-catch, its just the small quantity of them we catch...To my knowledge the NPF ( Northern Prawn Fishery ) which I operate in , is the only prawn fishery that has both a size limit and a no take of females, so the comercial quantity is maybe 1000kg per year, where as our prawn catch is anywhere from 80,000kgs per year upwards.

The size limit was dropped to 60mm across the head last year down from 75mm, and the reason they are whole is so when we get boarded by fisheries they check for bugs with eggs (females )..

This is the main reason behind them being classed as by-catch, a bad choice of words me thinks but easier to understand maybe.

Cheers Ean
