View Full Version : Prawns to Melbourne

Gday All,

Sorry for the delay,
We have tried to keep our prices low, but the export market for tiger prawns and the real bad catches have forced the price of the Large tigers up abit.

I am offering the tigers at cost price, but have a very limited amount, so I may have to stop offering them once I sell what I have.
The only increase from last year is the large tigers in the 3kg box all other prices are the same.

The product will go to Gilberts depot Melbourne, subzero cold stores in Brooklyn

I need a minimum order of 8x9kg cartons and sent as 1 consignment for this to work..

Tiger Prawns...
Under 8 (8 or less per pound)..1.5kg box =$43 our premium prawn & our largest by far..

10/15...(10/15 per pound).....3kg box =$63. A noticable size difference to the u/8 but still a good prawn size

Endeavour Prawns..These are direct competition to king & Banana prawns
Under 15...(15 or less per pound)...3kg box =$53

15/25...(15/25 prawns per pound)....3kg box =$43 This is a good medium size prawn..

Please compare my prices to your local supplier, and when you compare prawn prices make sure you compare the size grade's (count per pound) as this is standard across all prawn industry's..

Would look at getting these out of darwin around 6th December to arrive around 13th.

Cheers Ean

Gday All,

We are tossing up the idea of offering some of our by-catch, mainly Morton bay bugs..

This is going to require alot of help at your end as we have to keep these whole due to a size limit that is measured across the head.We pack them in 1kg bags, and because of this a master carton only holds about 6-7kgs.

I would need to send all the bugs together and you would need to seperate the order at your end.If I tried to seperate the bugs into orders like the prawns, the freight cost would kill the idea due to the amount of boxes I would need to send.

If this could work I would look at charging $21 kilo.

Think about it, so check what you pay locally and let me have some idea if you think it could work.

Cheers Ean

Gday Mick,

3kg box is
L = 190
W = 290
H = 90

1.5 kg box is
L = 190
w = 290
H = 45

9kg outer is
L = 600
W = 300
H = 100

I'm definitely in again this year.

Will confirm an order next week, just gauging some interest off people at work.

I've had a question asked of me though, approx. how many bugs per kg please Ean??

We have a size limit of 60mm across the head so a 1kg bag will give you between 9 - 13 bugs.

Ean, what is the cutoff date for orders ?

Would need to have the Melbourne orders finalised by Sun 27th to leave Darwin early Dec, as its about 9 days from Darwin to Melb, and it give me time if there is a transport glitch, so people dont have to cancel order as happened a few years ago.

This sounds great Ean, I am in! Give me a day or so for the order.

(Missus still making up her mind:angel:!)

Hey Nicho, keen on the bugs - maybe a kilo or so - not sure if I could devour half a box - anyone else keen on bugs?

Ean Austral
11th November 2011, 07:22 AM
Gday All,

Maybe I didn't explain myself properly with the bugs,

The way I pack the orders is to keep everyones seperate and write on the back of the outer carton who's it is and whats inside.If I have room to keep the bugs with your prawns I will,

BUT I may have to send a box of say 6x1kg bags of bugs and it may need to have 3 taken out to top up an order from 2 people.

THIS IS WHEN IT WILL HAVE TO BE DONE AT YOUR END, SAME AS I DID WITH SOME OF THE SINGLE ORDERS LAST YEAR.

I do plan on keeping every order seperate as I have in the past, I just cant send boxes down with just 1 or 2kg in them..

So feel free to order 1kg or 20kg of bugs, and I will let you know once I have packed it if there is any that need to be combined.

Any questions just ask.

Cheers Ean

Sorry Ean, I've now revised my order. Could you PLEASE add another 3kg box of the Under 15 Endeavours, making it 11 boxes in total for those. The other prawns and bug quantities remain the same.

Ean,

Looks like I may need to adjust my order, sorry.

A guy at work has advised that he's got a few money issues leading into Christmas, and may have to cancel his order (couple of boxes). Will have a definite answer for you Monday, and I will confirm my complete order with you then, if that's ok??

No Worries Brenno,

The consignee is just a name that we can use as a contact and who will be the person who goes into the coldstore, with the others waiting outside, or thats how they do it up here.

Let me know monday with the final tally no problems.

Its the same deal down here Ean. Everyone eagerly waits in the carpark for the consignee to emerge with a forklift and pallet of prawns.
Hopefully this year the storeman doesn't have another brain freeze and leave the pallet in the truck for the return trip to Adelaide like last year :eek:

Order is being dropped at Gilbert tommorrow will be at subzero cold stores in brooklyn on thursday 15th.

Brenno is the Consignee and they have his ph number.

So I will send brenno the con note # and you guys can work out a time and place to meet up.

Have been assured there will be no repeat of last years cockup.

I will post a list of people tommorrow who have orders.

Looks easy enough to find. I note Simsmetal is across the road, if anyone has some scrap lying around:angel:

Do we have a time of day on the 15th or do they ring brenno when they arrive?

I fluked a rostered day off so not too fussy, although would prefer not to be later in peak hour;):eek::mad:

I get the idea this happens each year? If so, I'll have to watch the forum more carefully so I don't miss out.

All,

I'll be contacting the coolstore on Monday or Tuesday to check our orders progress and confirm it's impending arrival.

At this very early stage, we will be meeting at the coolstore at 11.30am on Thursday to divide the order.

I will confirm the exact time and day to meet next week, so don't take the above as gospel just yet.

If anyone can't make it at the confirmed time and day, please arrange for someone to collect on your behalf, as I won't be able to hang around long due to having to get back to work. If for some reason there are uncollected orders on the day, I will bring them back, and you can arrange with me to collect it from Lara.

If anyone wants my contact number, please let me know, and I'll PM it to you.

If you have to travel that far and cant fit them all into your car fridge, dont make the mistake of putting them into an esky with ice, as the ice will defrost the prawns.

Just wrap them up to keep the direct sun off them and leave them in the boxes.We have people drive up from Katherine 300kms away and drive back and they are still frozen.. These will be at about -25 so they are far colder than ice which is about -2.

Sorry to say, but I dont understand this part, if you didnt get what you ordered then you have the wrong box.

Every box had the persons name on it and what was inside, so the only way you got the wrong order is to have someone else's.

If ou have a look on the box they came in it shoud tell you who's order you have.

Has anyone else got what they never ordered ?

I fail to undertand what happened today, as I spoke with the coldstore and they tell that people had access to the pallet before Brenno got there, but the pallet was consigned to Brenno,so how that happened is beyond my understanding.

I now find that someone has boxes missing and its impossible to follow up from my end..So the person that the order was consigned to (Brenno )has now had to go short, and the supplier ( Me ) now has to go out of pocket to replace his missing stock.

I can only hope that whoever has ended up with extra, and believe me if you have an extra 15kg of prawns you would know..come forward and says so.

Ean. There was no box with my name on it. When everone else had their boxes there was only one left and it had the name Muzza on it. Brenno made some phone calls and it was thought that some one who got to the pallet before us must have mine. So we arranged for me to go and swap.

As I was en route I got a phone call being told that they had checked their order and it was correct. So I kept the one that I now have, otherwise I would have got nothing.

Also at this stage I was a long way from Brooklyn end every one would be gone any way. What else could I have done?

As for anyone getting extra we were all present when the pallet came out and we all distributed what was on it.

Well thats even more confusing Dave, as muzza had 2 boxes 1 he packed himself whilst he was on the boat and 1 I packed, and in both of those boxes there were no bugs, but somehow you seem to have gotten something you didnt order, so try and understand it from my end.

I pack every order myself and write up the boxes, so I cant blame anyone at my end other than me, plus I have a book and tally how many outer boxes are packed, then compare it to orders then put it on the pallet.

Anyway whats happened has happened but things dont seem like they should from my end, and im now trying to find how to replace the prawns and get them to Melbourne during christmas.

If someone outside of the forum was allowed to take their box(s) before we got there what was stopping someone from the cool store helping themselves and leaving the blame to placed on that person. What Dave says is true Ean. There was a box with Muzza marked on it, but no box with Mr. Whippy on it. At the time we discovered it, there was still 6 or so of us there who saw it, and those guys were also there when I was calling Scott.

I called Scott Coe (??) I think it was, there was a con-note at subzero with his name on it, who was relaying messages to Ian (who was driving back to Seaford), the skipper who had been in early to collect his order. Dave was passed my phone to arrange to meet with Ian and Scott, as we assumed that they had Dave's box, as Dave had Muzza's.

I don't know what Ian and Scott collected from the coldstore unfortunately, but there was definitely a box left behind with Muzza on it, with 3 boxes of prawns, no bugs, hence my efforts to contact Scott to try and sort it out.

In all the confusion of breaking up the pallet, and trying to sort out Dave's order, I just assumed I had all of my order at the end of everything. Compounding my confusion was the fact I had Siska's order to take with me too. Steve helped me pack my esky's, but I didn't count everything before I left. I just assumed it was all there.

To be clear, I've told Ean that I don't think anyone I met today would have kept anything that they shouldn't.

I can also see Ean's point, and I commend his customer service.

A great big thanks to Ean (again this year) and Brenno for taking the consignment. Also a big thanks to David for picking up my order (AND delivering them to my door!)
I definately only have 1 3kg box of prawns, and 1 bag of bugs.
Sorry to hear about the troubles:(

Cheers,
Fraser

Well the orders should now be sorted, and brenno tells me Toll offered a better service and coldstore, so could be a better option next year.

Cheers Ean

Got to say, Ean, everywhere I've taken your prawns, everybody has commented how plump they are. Just had a few more tonight.
Thankyou for your efforts.
I might try a box of bugs next year.
Again, thanks.
And thankyou Brenno and Dave for the Melbourne end.

A MASSIVE, MASSIVE, MASSIVE THANK YOU TO EAN FOR EVERYTHING!!!

The coldstore that I collected the replacement prawns from is so much better than the other one we originally went to. So much more professional.

Thanks again Ean for supplying replacements for the one's that went missing. Your customer service is top notch, and is very rarely found these days.

Oh, and everyone loves the freshness and taste of the prawns and bugs.
