Been looking to buy a few P38's from salvage, but what is the go, it looks as though I need to pay $500 to register for online bidding? anyone else used the online function and what is the process?

The couple of online auctions I've bid on with the big places have charged/put a hold on $500 on my credit card. Seems to make cull out the dud bidders. Gets refunded slowly if you don't buy.

Auction fees on top of the purchase can be high.

I'm registered.
I paid $550.
If I wanted to make only one purchase, $500 can be used as part of the purchase, otherwise, I can cancel my registration at any time and get $500 refunded.
On any purchase there are numerous fees and charges.
Sometimes your bids don't get through. Standard excuse is "computer problems".
On selected items, you can participate as "on-line bidding" or put in a fixed price "this is what I am prepared to bid up to".
I have bought a couple of trailers. They want payment super quick. No cheques.

Many of my bids have not made it through to the auctioneer. Once I bid $3,000 for an item and it sold for $2,100. This has happened on several occasions.

So an initial purchase I need to factor in 500 tickets, I seen the fee's assosciated

Cool thanks, so its like a refundable payment, that's no drama's, I'd be happy with that, shame about the bids not getting through though!

I am pretty sure that with Fowles you pay a $500 bond which they keep until you have made your purchases and are finished with bidding, They keep the bond until you ask for it back. I have been registered for 4 or 5 years now.

As for Pickles, prior to bidding you have to give them a credit card number, for each individual auction you want to bid on. Pickles then 'freeze' $1000 from the card (the money doesn't actually leave your card but your maximum limit drops by $1000) This is then unfrozen a few days after the auction or can be used as part payment.

With Grays Online you have to register before bidding and give your credit card details. Then any items purchased up to the amount of $5.000 will be deducted from your credit card. For amounts over $5,000 you have to make other arrangements.

Also, with both Fowles and Pickles there is a fee of around 1% (could be a bit more) if you pay for the goods with a credit card. With Grays Online there are so many fees, who knows!
