Just a quick note (borrowed computer) we got spanked by a storm last night down this way, it peeled the roof off of half the waikerie institute, half of the recreation centre roof is off, numerous houses with damaged and power is still out on my side of the river. We had minor damage yesterday and spent about 4 hours before work helping out with that, (another crew were already there, they'd been up longer, so at 8 I went to work.. I finished work at 4 as it hit so went straight to the CFS station and finshed about 1.30 this am...we actually dont even have a job count, just lots and lots of paper everywhere (poor admin volly!) Got home and saw gear everywhere, set up genny on fridge and freezer and then bed....

so this morning I have had a look about....We lost a big jacaranda tree which is leaning against the house (doenst look like much damage to house), the large triangle based TV aerial is bent and is laying across the roof and wrapped and around the back of the roof line! There is a 5' long gum branch stuck to the transformer on the stobie pole outside...that'll slow em up!...

lost about 6 40'+ gums, lost lots of branches etc (including one that about 6" round flew up and pierced my workshop roof ! :( . cut is only about 1' wide and 6' long so we were lucky there!

lost some fences to trees, one to wind (dog is out and happy (the bugger!)
and for the first time in 12 months the chooks didnt lay eggs!!! (I winder why!)

So we will be on generator for a while and I wont be on, I didnt see any calls to EDG60's area in town, so I would suspect (hope!) his place is OK.. theyve got power back in most of the town over there already so bloody good work by the etsa blokes.

Anyway, just coz Im away doesnt mean I cant see what you buggers write about me (so be nice!) Will bother you again (with some piccies) when we have power.

Nearby towns Cadell and morgan also got a flogging...

Gotta go (im at work and borrowed this!! :)

cheers

Hope everyone is OK down there Digger.

We're currently camping just out of Albany and they've had some pretty big storms through here in the last couple of days as well (we arrived late yesterday and missed the worst of it). If what was over here is headed your way, you've got a lot of rain coming.

Cheers ......... BM

We got the tail end of that down here in Adelaide, but nothing so severe. HUGE rainstorm for about 15 minutes, then nothing but a lot of wind.

You'll have firewood for the next couple of years by the sound of all those trees down.

Hope you get things back to normal soon.

Mate, if you need a hand on the weekend around home, drop us a line.

I am stuck at work today & tomorrow, but could throw a few tools in the back of the Disco, and head up Saturday morning if needed.

Gday guys!
Thanks for the good lucks etc, and thanks Basil but there is nothing here that cant be done slowly at our pace, so we'll plod along a bit at a time. I do appreciate the offer though!

We got power back yesterday (a fantastic job by ETSA crews, theres 27 crews and trucks in the area most up from Adelaide! they and the local crews have worked hard and brought lots back on line quite quickly)

After a couple days of work and then cfs duties (tarping etc, securing fallen stuff etc etc) I am finally on a day off (from both!) so after checking everything out we decided some can wait and today is cricket as usual, so Im off to one town with one lad for his game then to another for mine and Nay, (the minister for war and fianance!) is off to a local game here with our other son.

I have a mob of photos but joined some panning shots and put them into the web thingy. I will add somemore later... again, cheers!

these arent probably great shots but people whove seen our place (when everything was standing!) will see the mess and missing trees etc (the rest of you will need to just imagine!!)

as said they're general shots, note the aerial across the roof, it knocked ceiling clouts loose, blew the light globe and loosened the ceiling fan in one of the kids rooms when it landed!

The kids were devestated (no TV now!!) but they have declared one of the trees as a Pirate ship until its cut up so I think they'll survive!)

I was hauling across the bore when that thing set in at the nulabor roadhouse and followed us up to broken hill, we got a head of it during the day but would be in the leading edge of it over night.

I was Really glad I had the maintenance truck to sleep in.

Good point :)

normally, yes, but at the moment there is a 120ft aerial laying on the roof still, so they are (I hope like heck!!) holding it up!!
