Hello all.
Ok, I'm looking to give the 130 some more ponies but which chip do I use? Looking at Tunit, Td5 Alive, and now I've found chipit.com. I've been fed all the usual guff about how the chipit chip is different and better and can be used on the older Td5's (99/00)... Has anyone got passed experience with one or any other chip. Price quoted was $1050 fitted.. How does that compare to the others.
Thanks. Simon.

Never heard of the chip it chip although it sounds a bit pricy to me. I think Tombie on here does one for a lot less than that and people seem to say good things about them. I had a BD 'chip' on mine when I got it - it's OK but I don't really have anything to compare it to. look around some of the threads - there's tons of opinions. I'm sure you'll be able to sound it all out in a couple of hours from others experience.

I have a 1999 td5 130 dual cab. I replaced my ecu with a chipped one from Triumph Rover Spares. Bought it out right as I wanted to keep my old ecu as a spare and it cost me just under $800.
The difference it has made is fantastic. I’m really pleased but have nothing to compare it with.

We fit PSI power boxes. They have 3 stages they can be set to, depending on the set-up of the vehicle. You can even get a booster chip to chip the chip! But the only customer we had to this ended up melting a piston, so I would stay away from that..
But I can't fault the PSI box, they are really good and fairly simple to fit.

I'm not looking for angurment from anyone ( had big e-fight with someone on over the same thing) Plug in chip V remapped ecu.
But i think the best option it to replace your ecu with a latter model flashable ecu and then have it remap by a well know tuner. Bell autos (tombie works with Pete from bas) td5 alive, td5 inside (kelvin 'disco_thrasher sells his stuff on here) etc...
I have personally run a big tombie map, Bell autos big VNT map and a Td5 inside 'super dooper mega' map for a vnt charger.

Contact Toomie from this site. I got my TD5 Defender ECU re-mapped by him, and have not looked back. That was almost 6 years ago. He (was/is) in Wyalla, so should not be too difficult to arrange. I think he is working in the mines however, so sometimes difficult to reach, but keep trying. He is a top bloke also. Have a chat to him before you do anything, if for nothing more to get the right information on what to do.
Good luck,
Ken

It's not hard. It's called research and it is a good way to spend an afternoon:cool:
Check on the "Search" function and you will find more than enough info to base your decision.;)
The easy way? Contact Tombie.
Be warned though. He works shifts and sometimes goes "walkabout". Just persist.

Hi!
Go flashable and I can look after you.
Or can do an exchange ECU and non-flash upgrade (takes longer, can't be changed once done - requires access to Nanocom/Rovacom etc for codes)
Cheers

Hi Tombie,
Does your reflash also close the EGR valve?

Not on a Td5...
You remove it completely instead.

I have my Navara (sorry I know its a Landrover forum) at chipit at the moment getting a chip done, they seem very switched on, the bloke i've been dealing with is called Robert.
Because the Navara runs very hot he suggested a EGT monitor in conjunction with the Chip, this switches the chip off if the Exhaust gets too hot, thus saving the engine, pretty important i'd say with the chipit as they do provide a lot more power & torque (producing more heat i'd have to guess).
Will put dyne results up of my Navara on monday if you like, its being used as a prototype as its a new model so don't know what to expect

OK, so I got the Navara back today, heres what happened.
They had the car for 6 days, god only knows why.
They promised me a loan car for monday so they could dyno it, this never eventuated, meaning I had to hire a car for 2 days.
They didn't return any phone calls.
Chip has done nothing, actually feels down on power now.
It cost heaps more than I was quoted.
Robert has promised to sort it out in 5 minutes on Friday, i'll give him the chance to get it sorted then or they can take it back out again.
Be a touch cautious is all i'll say for now

G'day all again.
So Chipit aren't very happy about me posting up on here, and in fairness to them I should probably add a bit.
The 1 day turned into 6 days because my car was being used as a guinea pig, they hadn't worked on one before and obviously there were problems they ran into.
It ended up costing me more than quoted as a result of chinese whispers, the deal being set up by a mate who underquoted me, I should have clarified this with Chipit themselves and renegotiated once it took more than the one day.
I know a few people running around with Chipit chips installed, ALL of them have reported huge increases in performance and are very happy with the chipit chip.
As I said, they have promised to sort it out and I have faith that they will, they do seem to know what they are doing, it just seems like a bit of clarity was lost along the way.
So sorry to chipit, didn't mean to upset you, lets hope it can get sorted out, if not, no dramas, it can come out didn't really want a chip to start with.
Jeez, sometimes wonder why I bother these forums

Sounds like fun!! Chip It here in Adelaide run out of the local Sprint Car Parts place. lookin on the net their power increase is only up to 118kw from 90.. Davis Performance Landies is quoting power up from 90 to 140kw with 420nm.. This sounds good but will the donk take it?? Anyone dealt with them??

I had BAS (Bell Auto Services) do a re-map for me about 6 months ago on my SVX PUMA.
First map was fast, went like rocket over 2700rpm's but lacked bottom end.
Pete Bell did some adjustments and now it pulls like steam train from 1900rpm's on.
Perfect for heavy off roading or towing......couldn't be happier.
This is benefit of dealing with somebody who is a expert on one type of vehicle and not some novice who claims to be across all makes and models is that they know what to target to get what the customer wants, not a hit and miss process hoping they get it right.
Good advice to any body with any make, do your research and then go with a expert on your vehicle.
It will pay off with the end product.....
Thanks to Pete from Bell Auto Services (BAS) in Yorkshire, UK.

Hey Pat,
Once paid for, it only took about 5 days for the programming device/box to arrive from UK.
Once you have got it, it only takes minutes to down load your stock map and email to Bell Auto services.
You provide vehicle details, any modifications and what your intended use of the vehicle will be. BAS will modify your stock map to suit you.
I sent mine early evening (about 7pm) and my new modified map was returned within a few hours.
Up loading the new map back onto your ECU only takes a few minutes.
That easy.
Cheers

Funny thing about the chip is my misses wants it,she won't let me buy all the bling bling stuff, recons thats for jap wannabes but she wants more than 130k/hr top speed to get around road trains,I think she misses the L322. Pat
