Just one precious minute....11/11/11 The eleventh hour, on the eleventh day of the eleventh month. Remembrance Day.
Today is the day that we as Australians pause and reflect on those who died in the theatres of war.
In 30 years from 1915, 100,000 Australians died in War service. Many of those died in action. Many also died from sickness and accidents.
And many Australians came home with severe war injuries and died not long after, or had a greatly shortened life.
Over 500 Australians died in the Vietnam War.
In these modern times we live in, of great busyness, rushing here and there, can we stop and push everything else aside for just one precious minute ?
Today, it is most important that we, not forget this important occasion of Remembrance.

We had a nice little service at the cenotaph here in Emerald.
two unfortunates....no one in Emerald selling poppies
Most ignorant people drove thru the parade without concern.
btw....it is also historic in that today we had the four 11's, 11th hour, 11th day, 11th month, 11th year
I'm not much of a mathematician or statistician but I know its going to be a long time before the 11's line up again.

And also a full moon this morning ;)
Yes, I paused for 1 minute,as I have done since a child, have several members of my family that went O/seas during 1914-1918 several did not return, those that did backed up again in 1939-1945,as did their sons and a couple of daughters, so I was indoctrinated from a young age.

Very disappointed , there was no announcement at work, over the tannoy of the time so as we could have a minute of silence.

I was at a function today in a very large function centre with heaps and heaps of different conferences, parties, seminars etc and at 11am they broadcast the last post over the PA system at a very appropriate volume. No announcement, just the music then silence. Quite nicely done actually.

We're in Albany WA at the moment on a camping trip. Arrived in the centre of town just before 11 this morning, and the entire centre of town was closed to all traffic (as it should be).
Very moving service & procession in the main street, and very well attended.

I insisted everyone at work observe.
Since I was a child, and no matter where I am, I will honour those who sacrificed all.

We always observe at work,on 11/11.
The CEO sends a CEO to all the work areas with the "We will remember them" poem on it and the bugler etc. And the minutes silence is observed.
Last year they played it in the lunch room and it worked really well, but this year they decided to play it over the tannoy (the one these use for fire drills etc). The intense feedback took away from the solemnity of the occasion, but of course still special to just pause and reflect.
I simply wouldn't let anything (well, short of an emergency situation) stand in the way of me observing the silence for Anzac or Remembrance days. When I worked at the airport I was on shift on 11/11 one year and we stopped processing passengers, stopped everything and observed the silence. One manager questioned me about it but the look I gave him must have answered his question because he scurried away. .

Picked up the Father in-Law (ex WW2 Sapper) around 10:30 and drove him into town for the local event. Not a bad turnout and noticabley a few more of the younger generation as well.
