Have just had a rather interesting experience with a major local supplier of Land Rover parts. Needed a few bits and pieces for the old girl and went down to a local supplier to pick up what I needed. Rather than a new radiator I opted for a fully reconditioned unit for my 300 tdi. It looked good until I tried to use it - leaked, rusted through from the inside. In fact was less useable than the one it was replacing. More worrying was that while I was waiting for some of the spares I overheard the head honcho berating an assistant because the cleanup and spray job on the bumper was not up to standard as he was selling it as a new piece of kit. I know, I should have pocketed my wallet there and then but discovered too late that I too had been had. So just a warning - be careful, there are sharks out there.

You know that even if the goods are secondhand or reconditioned you are legally entitled to a refund or replacement. The law states the goods must be fit for purpose, so for a radiator must function as they should. Even places like target and kmart who sell items on a discount or throw out table have to adhere to this, even if the goods are marked "faulty" or no returns, if not fit for purpose the retailers are legally bound to refund or replace the item so at the very least you would be entitled to receive another unit.
This happened once with a major retailer for me. Bought an item from the throw out table that was half price because of damaged packaging, the item did not work correctly so took it back and asked for it to be replaced, not refunded, they replaced with brand new one off the shelf.
Take it back and ask for a refund, they can't charge you any surcharges or fees and they can't refuse or you can take them to fair trading and believe me, you will win. Just mention things like fraud and today tonight, very powerful words. As long as you have a receipt you are covered.

Thank you, that is what I intend doing. We are totally at the mercy of these suppliers who know so much more than any part-time self-trained totally incompetent quasi mechanics.
