low fuel light permanently on

G'day, I'm a new member to the ALRO community. Seeking some assistance to solve an electrical gremlin. My 1991 110 low fuel light has decided to stay on even if I unplug the three wires from the fuel tank sender & I get no fuel level read out. Even with a full tank ( long range 110ltrs ) the dreaded orange light glares at me. The Haynes manual wiring diagram shows a " low fuel level unit " in the circuit, but I can't find it. Does anybody know where it's located? Or has any owner come across a similar problem? Look fwd to hearing from somebody, Rgds Vic..._:)

Look for chafed wires in the loom - since your 91 defender is basically non electronic, the low fuel light should ( of course I could be wrong) be triggered when the arm of the fuel level sender reaches the end of it's travel and connects with the third wire and grounds the circuit. So if you pulled the wires off the sender and the light is still on, there has to be a short to ground somewhere in between.
