Hi All
Have a problem.:(
300TDI 97 discovery.
Engine just stopped thought I ran out of petrol.
Fuel solenoid stopped working so I bought another.
I also cleaned the rear water trap, and installed new fuel filter & fuel pump.
May as well do the lot.
Now when we tighten the new solenoid it will not work, leave it a bit loose and it works.
Any idea's?

We got the engine going and it will not rev, just run ruff and on idle speed.
Any idea's ?
Air going down the loose thread maybe, would it need bleeding at the injectors.

This has us stumped.
Mate is a mechanic and he's shaking his head as well.

Don't have much of a clue apart from suggesting it'd run much better with diesel :p

Solenoid works fine till it is tightened up, any Idea's on that one people.
Will check the old & new next to each other tomorrow to see the same.

Try installing the solenoid without the plunger and spring - then see if the performance picks up. You may have to chase down other places where air may get sucked in. There should not be a need for priming or cracking open a line, as the 300tdi is reasonably resilient in that regard.

This is my original solenoid

How is the bottom o-ring of the solenoid?

I hate to make assumptions. But can I assume you checked the power supply to the solenoid?

"Engine just stopped thought I ran out of petrol."

"We got the engine going and it will not rev, just run ruff and on idle speed"

Is it possible that the issue is in fact something like oxygen and not diesoleum?

At a guess a '97 300 is more ripe for delamination of the inside of the of the 90 degree turbo to IC elbow hose more so than some random fuel solenoid issue????

Thanks Guys for the replies.
Power to solenoid is there, it works till it is tightened up then stops working.
Will check today if old and new are the same.
Was running perfectly till it stopped but will check turbo hose, did renew about 80,000 ago.
Will try the no plunger start and see if there is any change.

Thanks all
Jukebox.

Hi All
The Disco is going again.:)
Checked the solenoid and found that the plunger in it was incorrect.
Swapped it with the old one and it started working when tightened up.
The new one was hollow to the end and the old one the was not.
Spring went in the old one about 4 to 5mm.
Also I put the inlet and out let fuel line on the priming pump around the wrong way Derrrr.
All good now though.
