View Full Version : Wing mirror joint tension

The FL has lost tension in the wing mirror joints, not sure if it was vandalized, but they don't stay in place and tend to close in towards the car at speed.

I have put some tape on the outside to hold them in place, but it's not ideal.

Last night I took the drivers side off, and attempted to find a way of tightening the pivot joint but it certainly wasn't obvious, even with the mirror panel popped out.

I looked at an online prts web site and their replacement part appears to be the mirror part which somehow attaches at the pivot joint, not the entire unit, so it must be possible to get to it.

Has anyone successfully tightened the pivot joint on the wing mirrors before ?

One of ours is loose like that - it was folded all the way forward after I caught it on a branch while reversing - it's stretched the end 'hook' on one of the 4 " or so long extension springs that holds the joint together. I'll have it apart tomorrow and will take a pic of how it goes together if that's helpful - I'll just bend the spring back again and hook it up - you could possibly trim your springs / bend a new hook in the end if yours are stretched too.

Cheers,

Scott.

I could not see how to get the joint apart without cutting or damaging the wires.

Pics would be great

Thanks

Hi Dave - apologies, I ran out of time on the car and haven't got stuck into the mirrors yet, the vacuum pump oil return line cracked on the xedi and blew it's oil all over the engine bay and the freeway - so that set me back a weekend or two sorting out.

I'll try and get to it shortly.

Cheers,
