Quaife in the UK have developed a 6 speed sequential gearbox for use in Land Rovers, replaces the R380 box and utilises the standard LT230 transfer case and gearbox mounts etc.

I have emailed them asking if it can be fitted to a td5 and for a rough price for the box.

Will be interesting.

Hey Pete,

I did the same asking for a price with bellhousing for the D2...

I saw they had another similar box on their list for just under 10,000GBP...:o

That would be sweet. On this page on their site (http://www.quaife.co.uk/shop/search/results/taxonomy%3A824%2C229) they have it for a bit under £9k.

You all DO realise what the words
"straight cut"
"dog clutch" and
"sequential"

mean I hope.

This is a straight racing box meant for Bowlers etc for Paris Dakar. It would be unbearable to use to drive normally on a public road.

Think about what you hear when you watch the supercars.

So . Oh the sound. I will never forget the in-car footage of the Diet Coke E36 BMW super tourers in the late 90's, coming down through the gears at the end of Conrod Straight. I'd be happy for my Defender to sound like that. :)

Ah the enthusiasm of youth.
Yeah for about 10 minutes.
BUT not after a night on the hops.

They're for the Kiwi V8's mate, (Albins are supplying the Aussie V8's) but yes, it would save on freight :D

Can we say HOOOOOOOWL ! :D

Although I love the shift of a 'dog box, the speed and feel is lovely, I think I'd prefer an H pattern 'box in the Deefer so I could skip gears when I needed to.

Does Hollinger feature anymore in supplying racing transmissions? i used to see their gears and shafts at the local heat treatment works when I was getting my portal stuff treated.

I'm well and truly out of it these days Bill but all the current V8's use a Holinger box and he used to supply BMW Motorsport worldwide, but I suppose contracts can change at any time.

From that email you sent me

New Zealand’s touring car racing championship undergoes something of a revolution in 2012 with the introduction of the new V8 Supertourer formula. Alongside a single control chassis and engine, Quaife Engineering is supplying the control gearbox – our latest heavy duty rear wheel drive sequential unit – the QBE69G, which has to withstand the 700 bhp these cars transmit.
After extensive testing throughout 2011, the full grid of cars is now being built ready for the first V8 Supertourer race in February 2012. Hence why Quaife is delighted to have just shipped twenty QBE69G gearboxes to Australia where the cars are being prepared by Paul Ceprnich’s team at Pace Innovations. my stupid thoughts: #1 there are some very clever and capable Kiwi engineer/car builders in their own home. Would it not seem the better thing to have the cars built where they will be run?

#2 If they are being built in Oz, under similar rules to our new car, why not just use the same gearbox as we do?

kiwi cars built in oz, with a pommy gearbox that isnt being used in the oz cars?????
