This is an innovation that perhaps the CEO of Qantas would like to introduce in the future :D
Passengers on board a flight from the Indian city of Amritsar say they were forced to collect money on board the plane to pay for the remainder of their trip back to Britain. (http://www.abc.net.au/news/2011-11-18/airline-passengers-told-to-pay-for-fuel/3678532)

...let an airline that cares provide our air travel here...
All well and good, but do ANY domestic Airlines care about the passengers, or just about profits... None that I have travelled on recently...

Qantas should never have been privatised,it should have remained a govt entity (public owned) and a national asset, to be called upon in times of national emergency as it was originally set up.

As long as they keep the beer flowing at the Qantas Club, along with the planes leaving and landing when they should, I'm happy.

Dont like QANTAS then dont fly them. Who gives a toss about national carrier etc. Once upon a time it was un Australian to drive anything but a Holden or Ford but try telling that to the prado driving pouplation we have these days. If a company is doing the right thing then you reward them with your patronage and if they arent you leave. If QANTAS sees a downturn in numbers then they will assess the situation and look to improve it but if they see then numbers have stayed steady or gone up then nothing will change.
Fly Virgin domestic and Emirates internationally. As my former boss said the "the Emirates hostesses are gorgeous, they serve good booze and the buggers arent going to bomb their own airline".

Post War Expansion (http://www.qantas.com.au/travel/airlines/history-post-war/global/en)
In 1947, after considerable debate about whether Qantas should remain in private hands, the Australian Government acquired all remaining Qantas shares

I don't care who I fly with...
I have the ability to get on a flight and go to sleep until descent.
In flight service for me is a moot point.

sorry have to disagree, it creates an unfair playing field in a world wanting free competition, already enough rules and regs to help national airlines.
With regards to national emergancey its most likely the airline will already be contracted to supply the government with aircraft at short notice.

The modern Anglo way is to fly with who ever gives you the best deal based on what you want and value. As said below the days of flying Qantas because of who they are as as long gone as calling Asia the Far East.
Am afraid to say have not flown Qantas since the early nineties. At first flew with some cheaper fares whose service was i found was no worse than that from Qantas.
That said I have flown Emirates a couple of times and found them to be no better than and in some ways worse than Qantas. That is though my personal experience and that of others will differ.
